But if you don't pull the fuel pump fuse or depress the pedal to halt fuel injection, isn't fuel still going to be injected?

That has worked for some, but you need to be probably 15mph or a little more and in 2nd gear. Once it fires, go to neutral and keep it running.......don't let it stall.

Don't use sandpaper on iridium plugs .....just dry them off...

Take them out.....turn it over for a bit with the ESS disconnected...put the plugs back in....hook up the sensor..and floor the gas...crank till it burps...and let you foot off the gas..then gas till it stays idling.

Or if you have a manual tranny...tow it for about 100 ft...let out the clutch carefully in second with the key on..and wait till it starts...tons of smoke...and run it till it idles smoothly

What a Rip off, Mazda Dealers suck!!!!!!!

I have'nt drove my car for a few weeks and when I went to start it, it would'nt start. I had to move it out of thr drive way one day and was sick, needless to say I did not warm it up long enough.

Ok, maybe someone here can help me. I'm having a very similar issue. About a week ago something happened and I was running on one rotor, figured it was the ignition system, T2 spark plug wasn't firing, spark plugs were actually rusty on the outside. So replaced the coils, wires and plugs. There's no doubt the engine is seriously flooded.

Now I'm in the process of turning the engine over without the plugs in, but being in the frustrated mood I'm in, I didn't read thoroughly and did not disconnect the ESS while I've been turning it over. Does anyone know if this is going to do any damage?

I'm no expert, but I'd think that cranking the engine without the plugs and not flooring the pedal would add to the flooding issue more than help. As long as you floor the pedal you should not have to disconnect the ESS I think.

I just got my car started earlier this afternoon using the windshield wiper fluid DIY (look for the thread in . . . yep, the DIY section!). My car flooded for the 1st time in 5+ years of ownership after my brother started my car to move it in the driveway Sunday morning and shut her down right away. It's the 1st time I've had even a hint of a flooding problem! Tried the Mazda method for a two days (probably about 30-60 minutes each time) and tried pulling the EFI fuse to no avail. Did the windshield washer fluid trick and she started up after 3 or 4 sprays (2 or 3 one second shots each time, cranking 4 or 5 times between each spray). Also I had been cranking for 8-10 second per attempt (crank 10, wait 10), which didn't seem to be working. I was hesitant but I started cranking up to 20 seconds per attempt (increased waiting period to 30 seconds) and she started coming to life. I also hooked jumper cable to another car to keep from killing the battery. Eventually she fired up and is running fine now. Didn't even smoke as bad as I expected!

But it's a pity you have an auto, floods are so easy to deal with on a MT. Deflooding procedure has never worked for me with the Pedal tactic, but pull starting always works.
When you say "pull starting" what do you mean. I have a 6MT .04 rx8 and I flooded the engine but a push start didn't work. Almost but not quite.
How do you perform a pull start?
Pm me!

OK I just wanted to make sure I didn't kill my new ignition system. The method I used worked perfect, the second time. After smoke and gas stopped coming out of the plug holes, I cranked it a few more times, hooked everything back up, all I got was a cough. Did the whole process again, disconnecting the ESS this time, kept going until I could actually see the rotors were dry through the holes. Put it back together, prayed, cranked it and it fired up like nothing ever happened, barely any smoke even.

I used have this same problem on my 2004 8. It was embarrassing to say the least. But then one day, I discovered the AccessPort through MazdaManiac. Jeff the genius did a new calibration for me and since I loaded that onto the ECU the car starts first time every time no matter what. That includes turning the car on, revving the nuts off it and turning it off straight away in succession.

When I got my 8 it had the Mazda flash on it for ages but it never worked. My advice to you is to invest in the AccessPort from MazdaManiac on these forums. He offers the best service. Not only will your flooding issues be resolved but he can also increase your torque and BHP aswell.

I successfully deflooded my Rx8 using the accelerator pedal to the floor and removal of secondary air injection pump method. Smoke came out. Idle is slightly rougher than usual.

Do you think I need to change my spark plugs and oil?
