I got the new flash today and promply put 150 miles on it including a blast up and down South Mountain at or near 8k RPM in an out for 5 miles in each direction in 108°F heat.
It is compatible with both E-Manages and does improve the idle with and without A/C.
It also drastically changes the staging of the secondary injectors.

also it is possible to flash it yourself with the mazda flashes. just not custom flashes.

its called pass -thru programming. www.mazdatechinfo.com read around there and you'll find what you would need. basically a j2354 device/cable a laptop and a subscription.
J2354... Would the cable that came with the sCANalyzer i stole from my rx-8 buddy be sufficient?

If yes, then i might just pay for the subscription on that site. Are the european and US flashes different? Cause that CarDAQ thing is too costly man.. a grand just to reflash???

And does that site have the latest flash?

http://www.drewtech.com/products/mongooseiso.html

Will this product be sufficient? If yes, it doesnt seem too costly, i could offer other rx-8's reflashes... yes/no?

See my try..

DrewTech states it can flash PCM's, but I have read it doesn't have the h/w build-in to set the PCM programming voltages. So I don't know for sure.
Email DrewTech and tell us their response.

I tried searching but couldnt find anything. I know i must of missed it somewhere. My 2005 is constantly getting 13mpg and going through a qt of oil a week and the dealer keeps claiming its fully flashed. How can I tell which flash my ECU has programmed into it. I looked under the hood and on the door to see if there was a label somewhere...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, it might change your mileage, depending on how you drive.

The newest flash removes a good part of the old CAT protection strategy above 4k RPM.
Now, it will only start to run more rich at a significantly higher load in the same RPM range after the 5-second delay.
At a typical 4.5k cruise, it will no longer shoot for 12:1 after a moment.
YMMV.

no. it looked previously liek they only made anew flash for th e2004s but better understanding made it clear that they had done the 2005 flash as well.

I have read this entire post and did not see any reference to the S flash in relation to the interceptor which I have. Is the the new flash compatable with the interceptor ??????

Thanks

I've only had it for 3 days, but it does what it is supposed to do.
The idle is fixed and the transition into the secondaries is smoother and the fuel dump at part-throttle cruise above 4k RPM is gone. That is all I can ask for.

I have noticed that the transition at WOT in the upper rev range is more noticeable to me now. I always knew it was there, but now it just feels different, not quite like the VTEC kick you in your pants. I have not really noticed much change in anything else, but that and a smoother idle. But I am not monitoring everyhting that happens, with trick little computer systems and such.

Any word on when this will be an official recall/TSB? This is still nothing listed on Rosenthals site or the NHTSA site.
