try dyno'ing in this weather, ith all my mods I could only manage 189whp

???

Anyone's independant flash would erase any OEM data, so it shouldn't matter.

well the flash will be built on what is already there- if you arent going to change the mop profile for instance then it will be set at whatever it was set at from the factory depending what Flash you base your custom from. you dont start with a blank slate. you start with a factory base. Racing Beat will use the most recent version and make their tuning adjustments to that.

are you sure of that... i was wondering if they are overwriting everything or just the changed areas...

if they are not overwriting everything it make it almost a no brainer to me..

He just means that RB isn't making their flash out of thin air.

They take the latest they have available (Like R), make their adjustments, then flash your car with it. So what your car has on it does not matter. It's overwritten with the RB flash.

i think you are missing what i am saying... if they can just overwrite the changes and leave everything else as is it does not matter what flash you have...

so if you have the s you say on the s. my guess was they did most of the work with the r flash...

I understand what you're saying, but I would be surprised if RB was doing that.

It would be easier and safer to overwrite everything.

they over write the whole thing. but they use as the base of their program the Mazda program. this way they do not hace to make everything from scratch. they just change what they want to change and leave the rest alone. They are makign the flash on the new one S. so if you were on R and you get the RB flash you get S with their changes

I have an '05 RX-8 with 12k on it, if I go in to the dealer will they flash it if i ask for it, or do you have to cry and wolf and say you are feeling things you may or may not feel?

I would go in and tell them you have rough idle with the A/C on, and that there is a new flash out that is suppose to fix it as well as change other aspects of the the car's performance. If they are a good dealership they will hook you up, if they aren't then you might have to try it at another one.

is it safe to assume that all dealers currently have the latest flash in their system?

If they update their systems regularly they should have it.

all the dealers have the latest updates. their new system requires them to ping aserver for the new updates on a frequent basis. if they dont mazda sees it and calls them to find out why they havent connected for the updates. they may no tknow they have them- but when they plufg into you car it will tell them they do.

I know this a few days ago but I have the same issues, take a look in your air filter box and see if it is loaded with oil. My oil consumption is not as bad but have used up a qt in 500 miles.

I looked under the hood and on the door to see if there was a label somewhere...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Had my 05 (built 8/05) receive the updated flash. Haven't noticed anything much different but gas mileage seems to be down after half a tankful, I won't know for sure till I run a couple more tank fulls.

Just an update, 250 miles into the new flash, car still running strong and smooth, idling very well with the A/C on, and still have better pickup in 6th on the interstate at 70-75mph than before. I am trying to keep an eye on the tailpipes to see if the amount of "soot" has changed with this flash as well.

I just got the new flash yesterday. I noticed a slower start this morning but I am still having idle issues with or without the AC on. Hopefully it will get better.

Holy Sheep Dip!

I just got my 30,000 mile service. I forgot to ask if they did a flash, but dayum my 8 is running like a bat outa hell now! It's much smoother, and it's accelerating a hell of a lot faster than before. It seems like I barely get my foot all the way to the floor when I have to quickly upshift to 2nd.

Come to think of it, I have two autocrosses this weekend... Bwaaahaaahaaa!

S Flash in April?

I need to verify this, but I took my '04 MT to the dealer at the end of April for the fuel tank recall, the A/C amp TSB, and a couple of other things. When I picked it up, the service writer was going over what was done and told me they had reved the flash. I asked which flash level had been put in (I had R going in). He showed me on the paperwork that is was S. (I can't find the part number on the paperwork he gave me, but I saw it on the paper work he had in my file.)

I didn't think much of it. Just figured I'd missed a thread. I've been busy and haven't kept current with this board.

They didn't say it was being tested or that I couldn't say anything to anyone about it. One of the reason for bringing it in was a growling sound from the A/C during cycling. Maybe they figured they'd just reflash it to see it it solved the problem.

I have seen smoother idle/better performance others have reported. Oil consumption is up slightly. I've also noticed slightly better gas mileage, +0.5 MPG on average. And, the low fuel light seems to come on later, closer to empty.

Just to clarify my understanding from previous posts in this string, S is the new flash for '04 MT's, correct?

I have to go back to the dealer soon, so I'll verify the flash level.

Cheers,
Bob
