Engine service
Many cranks to get started and lack of power at low revs.
80.000 kms so far and my question is How many kms is reasonable to expect for a life of a a Rotary engine?
Mechanic says next service I should consider a de coke.
But first I want some answers form other RX8 owners.
What is the cause of the lack of power at low revs. Under 4 thousand revs.

lack of power, can be a few things, clogged exhaust, low compression, faulty ignition.
if that was mine, i would verify the ignition is working first, as this is the easiest thing to do, then probably a compression test.
the cat is tricky, as looking thru it is only possible from one side

The average life you can expect somewhere between 10,000 and 250,000 miles from a rotary engine.
That is if the owner maintains everything well.
Yes, I am serious.
It's a far more complicated question than you think it is, with no easy or straight answer. This isn't a piston engine, and you can't think in piston engine terms. Once you have your mind wrapped around that, it will get easier to start working through stuff.
See my new owner's thread in my sig.

in my ~20 years of playing with these, i would say the average life is about 6-8 years. depending on the model. mileage doesn't seem to matter.
the FD was maybe 3-6 years, we were changing those under the regular warranty, and in 99-2000, we were selling 6-8 FD engines a month. now they sell 0, its a bell curve.
the GSL-SE's would go 20 years or 200,000miles, which ever came first. the GSL-SE was the best car Mazda made until the Miata. its fun, reliable, and really usable as a DD.
and you can't discount the owners either, the highest mileage FD i know of, went 118k with no work needed except front brakes, but then it died in a fire, because the owner wired something in really badly. or the higest mileage GSL-SE, 320k, original CLUTCH, died because the guy spun it on a mountain road and totaled it.
