ECU modding?

after getting my xenons installed at a shop today. the guys working there told my friend (who owns a mustang gt) that his nephew has his own shop with a dyno and everything where he can mess around with his computer and add a bunch of horsepower and make the car run faster and more efficiently. But the guy doesnt know if they can do this to the rx-8 because they usually work with fords, is this a myth or is that really possible? (for either the mustang OR my 8)... And if it is, does this void my original warranty??

i read pretty much all of it, but i just dont understand it. this guy just was just telling me that i could increase performance, optimize gas mileage and increase horsepower. i still have yet to learn about the computer side of my car, sorry about that. i just want to know if this can actually happen and if this guy can do it, and how much i should be charged for it.

Forget understanding it.
Those links explain the questions you are asking.
If you still don't get it, then the answer to your question is "no".
