Hi,

I have a very good offer, to get a control unit for E85 cheap.

I browsed through lots of threads, but my main questions are not covered :

* Does E85 affect the apex/side seals maybe ?
* Is the replace of the fuel pump necessary ?
* are there hoses whicht should be replaced ?
* does E85 affect the oil film in a critical way ?

I know that the E85 is not as bad to the engine itself as heard most.
I also know about power/mileage so that don't count to me. E85 is cheaper then regular premium gasoline (0,85 euro cents to 1.10 euro cents rising)

I want sone answers to my questions or experiences on a 6 port manual shift RX-8.

Hello,

Lasse Wankel has done alot of testing with E85 on RX-8 renesis, the best for you is to contact him.

He has said some info about it but I dont remember all but this is some info.

The fuelpump will not be enough to give fuel on high rpms, it needs to be replaced.
You will need to get some EMS system for mapping your car for E85.

My personal opinion is that you should exchange your hoses and maybe do some research about lubrication for the seals, maybe pre-mix is the way to go here. E85 is "dry" fuel but has other good characteristics as colder cumbustion burning, cleaning effect against carbon build up.

Chris from Esmeril Racing has done E85 stuff as well.

In the least you will need a new fuel pump, larger injectors, and a new tune for E85.

Running E85, as long as you're tuned conservatively, won't effect your engine adversely.

 

Hmm ... why a different fuel pump is needed ? Will the stock pump be affected by Ethanol or is it just for pumping more Ethanol up the engine ?

To be more exact : I plan to run my car on E85 or premium gas with the oem equipment. The Ethanol unit detect the Ethanol/gas mixture and leans/richen up to the corresponding ratio.
I just want to know, if there can be some issues (and which) with the oem equipment.


My plan is to have the choice between E85 and regular gas, so i can buy the cheaper one . I also think, that gas prices may rise in the near future. Especially here in austria.
1 litre of premium : 1.12 EURO or 4.48 EURO a gallon (a gallon approximately 4 litres)
1 litre of E95 : 0,93 Cents = 0.19 EuroCents net difference

I'm sure, that the car will need more Ethanol when run at high loads/rpm, but I think the mileage will not be affected greatly when cuisin' or at city speeds with 'floating' driving style, so at the end.

Also Ethanol will be a good 'bridge' fuel.
