I am new to this site, own a 2004 RX8 4 speed auto. My question is: Does the limited slip differential make noise when first engageing the transmission in drive or reverse?

Mine does, when I put the trans in D or R as the car starts to roll I hear a noise that sounds like its coming from the differential or possible the trans.

Anyone with an auto have the same?

It's probably the ABS doing a self check - it should only happen the first time after starting the car when you go over 1 or 2 mph.

If this noise is happening everytime you start from a stop, it could be something else.

 

sferret, that is exactly when it happens, on first roll off at 1 to 2 mph.
