Does front license plate restrict airflow?

I live in Illinois so I'll have to have a front license plate to be legit. The plate mounts right smack in the middle of the grill. Won't this restrict the airflow to the beloved Renesis?

Should it be taken off for track and autocross events?

It won't restrict airflow--the air flow is through the air dam below the grille.

Look closely at the upper part of the grille. You will see that it is solid, so no air is passing through that area anyway. A plate in front of that, therefore, is not a problem.

Thumbs up

It is one of the great things about the RX-8: the illusion of a big grill when in fact, the upper solid part hides the bumper.

Well, I live in Illinois and I never put my on, nor will I... it's been over a year plateless with the '8 and 2 years before that with my Miata since I moved here from Florida. No tickets for that, or for my tinted front windows. If/when I do, I'll consider it a small price to pay for keeping my RX8 looking like a sports car.

Just say no! :D
