the MSRP of Reman Engine did go up to 3335 + 1000 core charge

Well it's still nowhere close to his estimate. but I guess the "cheap" engine days are now over.

I would think that'd just scare people away when they see the bill and just make them give up on the car. Like I said there was this lady with an auto 04 with 100k miles. The service department offer her 500 for the car as is.

I just spoke with the parts guy at my dealer to confirm, they are doing $1850.00 for me and he told me list is $2,001.00 + $1,000.00 core. But that was last week, the core I am using is just missing one part. Now you guys are scaring me, I better call him in the AM.

even I was about to get an engine next week. but now, I might just rebuild it myself. cuz at 3K+ for a "hit or miss" engine is just not worth it.

Man, I hope you are wrong. We have been dicking around not rushing on this core, I am going to be pissed if he tells me there is some sudden price change.

That change makes it not worth the trouble of buying a reman for the new parts and rebuilding it.

So... I called him up today, and he said he has 3 remans coming in, so I think I'm still good.

But a few couple interesting points, when I asked him about header, he actually recommends me to keep the stock one, sth to do with losing a heatshield is a big no no.

And on a sidenote for those searching in the future, Cam @ Pettit actually does Cobb AP maps.

you can either get the new header coated, or just fab your own heatshield, its not hard really.

Mazda in the US no longer sells any all brand new (assembled/made by MMC Japan, as MMC no longer makes completed short engines) short engines for any series RX-8,
MNAO now only sell their local remans with a $1000 core return.

As far as pricing goes, Montgomery's do load their prices by 5% when compared to some other on-line US Mazda Parts Dealers, but they say their shipping is cheaper?..
this 5% extra started about 12 months ago.

Remember there is also a new guy handling all their on-line orders (Preston), Jason Baggie now works at a Subaru Dealer as a Parts Manager.

Mazda Parts - Online Mazda Parts

Montgomery's price for a reman is...

MSRP $3335, core $1000, on-line price $3250.

N3H3-02-200RV0

That is for a Mazda NAO reman 6 port MT.

Or cheaper here..

Or putting an Atkins single rotor as a sustainer engine in a Volt.

Could one then claim an 80 mpg rotary?

a word of advice:

don't worry about the core, as long as the base short block is there then they shouldn't give you any runaround.

what did you sign with your core charge? i don't sign anything. i could drop an old FC core engine into the box and what could they really say? yes, you could get the runaround getting your money back but there was no specifics i saw with the core charge, written or implied.

i have even taken 2 core engines, robbed the good parts and sent back the junk assembled into one engine and there was no problem. should i feel guilty about it? nope, the core charge is mainly in hopes that someone doesn't return an engine and they get to keep the $1000. these engines have been a problem since day one and they're not losing much if anything by not getting any usable parts back, in most cases they shouldn't be using any of it anyways.
