Damn Fuel Pump Cap !!!! Argh !

Im trying to replace the fuel pump. Got the seat and quick connector off. and now ..

How do I freaking take the cap off, do I have to have to get the SST ? I heard that its gonna cost 200+ bux. I dont want to pay 200+ bux for something I probably use once in like maybe 3-4 yrs.

Ideas anyone ?

Anybody know the part number for this SST?

Or should I just bring it to the shop ? will they have something to open the cap like this ?

Ask my local dealers ? Well I dont think they're willing to do that. The one that I know are too far away.

Where's that DIY?!?

I plan on attempting a fuel pump replacement on my 8 pretty soon, so what should I know before I do it? Do I have to get that special tool, or did Scott give you some super secret trick to do without spending a ton of money?

hammer and screwdriver is usually a functional alternative if you have no choice.

I was so pissed off and forgot to make a DIY
.
Well, its not really that hard, thats IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TOOL. when u do, it takes as little as 1 hour to finish everything.

a hammer and screwdriver might work, but how to secure it back is another problem.

The tabs are a lot stronger than they look - they will take a lot of abuse.

I finally got mine off by hammering a small pry bar against one of the lugs until it budged just a little. Distribute the abuse evenly around the rim until it gives.

A blob of silicone grease inside the cap's threads assures that next time will be much easier.

i was able to megyver it with the free one you can borrow from autozone.

i doubt it could be done the first time with a hammer and screw driver.. as that is what had me end up at autozone.

beers

Cool, cool...well I should be receiving my new pump in a week or so. Thanks for all the tips, and I'll be sure to post again if they don't work, haha.

one more thing. be really careful when you try to put it back in. the plastic connnector in the middle of the pump is VERY fragile.
