ok, i understand that the 3rd set of ports opens up at 7500 rpm. but why WOT? why not say cruise in 2nd at 8000 rpm for 20 seconds?

 

Why drive at all?
Why not just rev to the beep, sitting at a traffic light?
Because you need a blast of foot-to-the-floor 'redline' wide open throttle to burn carbon and 'clear the pipes' - the difference between a yawn and a cough - a blast of heat/flow to move the rotary mucous!

MY favorite part of my morning drive to work is exiting a toll booth, taking it down to second pulling 9000, third gear pulling 9000 and if really feeling froggy, fourth gear 9000 but miss my exit when I do that in fourth.
