Cute plugs+coils.

Check this out.

Did a spark plug + wire swap (and unintended coil swap (thanks Dannobre for the help, coils and Charles for the plugs+wires)) today, and found some interesting results..

I had two pretty decently bad plugs, only took a picture of one of them, and same with the coils connected to those plugs. Took my car to the dealership I guess two weeks ago, said I had loss of power, asked them to check the plugs. Well, I guess they didn't.

My car's been running like this for a little while, no idea it was this bad.

What's wrong with that picture?!?!

Also, during the drive home, my car was SUPER quiet, and felt like there was an ***-ton of back pressure. The higher rpm I went, the quieter it got. I did a test, and in 2nd gear I redlined it. Around 7K RPM, it hesitated, then POP! I saw a cloud of smoke and a small object spiraling out of my tailpipe.

Guessing it was the cat. Anyone ever had this happen? I figured a blown cat wouldn't actually come out of the exhaust tip.. I can't get under the car to check it out ATM, but I checked to see if my cat was glowing after the latest drive. Nothing, it runs like a FREAKING CHAMP now though. Thanks again Charles and double thanks to Dannobre

sounds like your cats insides broke up and its not uncommon for bits to get stuck in the muffler and rattle about. but yours managed to find its way out of the car. i would get your cat changed and also inspect the cat back for loose parts.

I really hate emissions laws.

I'd rather have a straight pipe.

I was amazed that the thing ran at all.....despite the fact that both coils on the rear rotor were corroded through the metal in the wire socket...and one plug was missing the end...it was still firing.....sorta anyway..the plugs were surprisingly very normal looking on the electrode ends.

Typical dealer though...complain under warranty and they won't do anything unless there beloved computer tells them there is a problem
