So I have tested this theory many times and everytime it has been correct...Cranking the ac on recirculated air warms up that rotory ***** a lot faster then just leting it sit. After about 3 minutes i've noticed im fully warmed up and the rpm needle is in its final resting place. Test it out and tell me if anyone else has fun things like that happen. :D

 

Yes this is true since turning the A/C on puts additional load on the motor, therefore making it work harder and warming up quicker.

Did you know that turning your heater on full blast will actually keep your engine temperature cooler (handy on hi-rpm track days)?

 

I've limped cars to the shop doing that when the thermostat sticks.

 

That three minute warmup is at what range of ambient temps? I'd sure like to have a faster warmup in the winter. So I wonder if running the AC first will work in freezing weather, and even down below 0 degrees F.

What else can be done to get a faster warmup?

 

Ifyou guys got your cars flashed orif you bought them already flashedtheres no need to wait for warm up after 10 seconds. Ifyou watch the needle in the tachometer rightafter you startthe car--it jumps up at first to almost 2000 RPM (at leastin my vehicle) and thenafter no morethan 10 seconds it slowly starts dipping back down to 1000 RPM. Alsoif you listen closely theresa noise that accompanies this effect. Youdont have to do anymore waiting afterthat if you dont want to. Infact you could even shut the car off ifyou wanted to at that point b/c I believe that thisnew "feature" is partof the protection they added w/the flashes tostop our Rx8s from flooding. I wouldnt recommend testingthat too much though

 

yes.. it might warm up faster. but dude. warm up not just mean increase the temp. it also let the engine oil go around the engine. so tat engine can go smoothly.and got good protection.

 

While the A/C compressor does cause a load on the engine, it is not the reason for the temps to rise on your engine. It's the heat that comes off the Condenser. As soon as you kick the A/C on and it runs for a minute or two, the heat that comes off the condenser is astronomical. So hot that it's hard to keep your hand on the condensor. And since the condenser sits directly in front of the radiator, the radiator gets nothing but hot air mixed with the ambient air.

 

That being the case, I've had the A/C on in the winter because the defroster is usually on. I'd have to say that it doesn't help achieve a faster warm up in freezing cold weather, at least not much. It's not that I wait for the engine to warm up before driving. My concern is with getting cabin heat more quickly for safety (visibility) and occupant comfort.
