Cold Air / Ram Induction.
A question for all tech types.
Reading the various threads leads me to believe that the Renesis switches intake runners during acceleration, with the last stage (7k+) being a 'cold air + ram air' step.
If this is the case, why wait to 7000? Would not the whole process benefit if colder, more pressurized air is available?
Could this be a minor 'air box' mod, or am I missing something?

i thought renesis' intake system worked purely by variable-length. I'm pretty sure also that ram-air intakes werent designed into the body of the car, nor that renesis could achieve top speeds that would make ram-air-benefits appreciable, nor that there is a cold air setup as part of the system, but on the last part im not so sure... what makes a cold-air intake a cold-air intake?

the 7000rpm duct that opens is a secondary air inlet... it's not really a "cold air" inlet primarily, and (although grossly unfamiliar with the engine bay layout) i don't believe that it's quite stiuated immediately behind the upper pentagonal duct on the front, but there probaby could be some tempurature and net-pressure benefits too (i don't really know)... basically, it's just a short cut for the in-drawn air to the airbox so the resonances work favourably in the upper rpm ranges.

from the Best Motoring video that I've seen, the engine seems eager to rev readily even to 9500 on the move but when idle, it seems lethagic at around 8000......could this contributes to the poor A/F mixture during the design stage and the "cold+ram air" , the answer??? I will look through the video again......:D :D :D

...why would you think it has a poor fuel mixture at any RPM??

...you mean when buddy just blips the throttle?? no, that's not to do with the design of the induction system, but more to do with the fact that he wasn't flooring the pedal, just feathering it so he wouldn't hit the rev limiter.

I dun mean that RX8 has a poor fuel mixture but rather the unique design of the cold air/ram induction to improve intake. Dun get me wrong.

Inlet system.
I found a picture of the entire induction system, which seems to have two inlets - so the switch over is probably from the long trumpet to the stubby inlet on the right of the pic.
I can see that some suitable 'experimentation' will have to be performed!
