clutch pedal bracket recall
So my pedal bracket broke last week and after talking to Mazda this is what the letter in response said.
"According to our records, your 2005 Mazda RX-8, Vehicle Identification Number (******************) has no open Mazda Recall Campaigns at this time.
Recalls are mandated by the Federal Government, not by individual car manufacturers. Also, keep in mind that Recalls are VIN specific. As such, not all vehicles produced during a model year will be affected."
I called the person that wrote this letter, left a voicemail and I am now waiting for a call back. I thought the recall was for any RX-8 manufactured during the time period of April 10, 2003 to September 13, 2008. Why would I be told there are no open recall campaigns but my bracket is broken?
What do you recommend I do?

There was no recall.
Mazda only extended that part of the bumper to bumper warranty that applied to the clutch pedal assembly to 8yrs 100,000 miles.
NOT a recall. Outside the warranty? It's on you. They just fix it with a new assembly that has the same weakness, so just get if welded.

Here is the document about the clutch peddle Special Service Program, http://www.gerhardstein.net/picturestokeep/RX8SSP82.PDF. Make certain that your car qualifies in regards to age and mileage.
CarFax isn't evidence of a recall.
There was an agreement with the US government on how this would be handled. SSP82 was the result.

I called Mazda again today and got the same information, that it was just an extension. I have a bumper to bumper 5 year warranty that I paid for when I purchased my 8 and now the dealers service tech is telling me he's not sure if it's covered. SMH.. Thanks for the info guys

They fixed my clutch bracket, along with my mounts (finally), bad control arm and a 4 wheel laser alignment to correct my camber wear issue in the rear. Everything was covered under my warranty except for the alignment which was $95+ tax. All said and done it cost me $195+ tax. I've been dealing with them fixing my mounts for almost 6 months, I'M STOKED!!! can't wait to have my 8 back, I miss hear dearly =)
