Changed Fluids in Car Today!!
Man I just got finished swapping tranny, motor, & differential fluids today to Royal Purple. First off my differential drain plug was so freaking tight I broke (2) 3/8 extensions getting it off. Mazda must really likes tightening things really hard my oil filter was near impossible to get off for the first time.
Did anyone notice how thin the Mazda tranny oil was when you drained it?
Do you think it's still wise to switch at 3000 or 5000 with Royal Purple?
Overall the car feels smoother now!!

Go Texas Longhorns!
I've got the same, I change the oil every 5,000mi unless I hit the track and the tranny fluids every 50,000mi.
The royal purple tranny and diff fluid is great stuff, unless you race, 50,000 is plenty conservative.
I use a good Wix filter (get them at O'Reillys) and I feel 5,000mi is perfectly safe with the oil once the engine is broken in.

Royal Purple club too...
I switched my transmission and differential to Royal Purple at 17000 miles and wished I had done it
much sooner. The change to the better is very pronounced. In general, I feel that transmission and
differential fluids should be changed after the *first* 10000 miles to get rid of all the break-in particles.
Later the fluids could stay for the duration specified in the manual, in particular if you use synthetics.
For the motor oil I tend to intervals around 3000 miles, even though the manual allows more. But
the cost of an oil change is not very substantial and much cheaper than the cost of an engine.. Particular with
a rotary engine, which is much more dependent on oil than a conventional engine, the cost of an oil change
should not be a saving factor. (remember, the oil is also essential to cool the rotors...)
