Catch can FTW

Yesterday i did my first oil change on m 8 and i forot to check/empty the catch can. Previous owner had a weapon R catch can because he was eventually going to boost. Well to my surprise it was FULL of oil about half a quart...... so yea it did its job and after looking how easy it was to install i would definitely recommend it to anyone (5 minute bolt on install)

But what you have to ask yourself is:
"Why was it so full of oil?"

thats the mystery... iv had it for a month and when u purchased the car he had reciepts for oil changes (yes i did get a compression test and it was good) Im assuming he had it there for a while and never emptied it. He went to a place called spiffy lube so i wouldnt be surprised if they topped it off

MMMmmm a mystery indeed

Yeah if you're not careful adding oil it is totally possible to have quite a bit of oil roll around the neck and down the tube.

I wouldn't expect that much blow by even if you were boosted so ... I'm guessing it's got to be the way oil is added.

edit: Blow by is not good boosted or otherwise ..

Too much back pressure (clogged cat) will cause the oil to back up.

Nope, you didn't.
a) Catch cans are still to be discussed.
b) My name's in the greetings list.

So...you're telling to dozens of other noobs to buy one because it does its job... without knowing what purpose it serves and how to diagnose a full catch tank.
Good job!

I don't have a catch can for the record, never needed one.

Well if it was me I would pay close attention to how I fill the oil.
Use a funnel or something to make sure of no oil leakage to return hose.

Otherwise if it happens again something is not happy.

rofl bse loooolol u darn italian noob!

well seriously, i never had a catch can, only time i had oil in my intake was due to shitty stealershit giving me free oil changes. well, sometimes free might not be a good thing

other than that, my intake is bone dry

what catch can?

u can install one just to be safe, or use it as a bing bing mod to ur engine bay, but its no differemt than having a greddy pulley.

I take that over ur stupid pasta

ok seriously, Catch Can is useless. at least for me.

you can use it if u want, but at least try to understand "why is it there?"

more important is "do I really need it?"

If you think oil being poured in the oil neck is how it is getting into the intake/catch can then the OP is not the biggest noob in this thread

lol, well that's the only time I had oil in my intake

I wanna ask how they did it too

but consider the fact that they are also the same stealershit who thought my car was hit that's why my coolant bottle gone bad , to make it worst, they also said my rear view mirror rattle was cause by the "aftermarket" wing in my back of my car ... and no im not kidding.

Your better off capping the intake and adding a filter on the neck than to purchase a catch can.
