Thumbs down Can't shift.

Hey everyone,

I took my car to Mazda for an oil change, they say I will void my warranty if I don't get them to change my oil with their "Warranty approved oil".

They say after the oil change that there's a new recall that just came out and it was the clutch plate breaking away from the firewall. I have heard about this before, but buying my car used, I figured it was already done. So they checked it for me, turns out that it could have been coming off. They ordered the part in, but due to the winter I have had my car stored and couldn't get it done. I drove it to and from storage, and to work once. It's parked waiting for an appointment, but it won't even go into gear now. It won't go into any gears except when shut off, it will sometimes go into third but with a grind. Is this the clutch plate coming off and making it not fully disengage?

It was fine before I took it to Mazda, and it felt a little strange to shift after I took it out. But I figured they had to adjust it some while inspecting the plate.

As for now, CAA is going to have to take my car to the dealership. But if the plate would not cause this, then I can't afford to get it fixed and it's currently not worth my time bringing in.

I think you mean clutch bracket, yes that could be causing problems shifting if it is broken or almost broken. Crawl under there and take a look at the bracket its where your clutch connects in the drivers side footwell. There are a ton of threads with pictures on how to see if thats your problem, so start there.

Okay thanks, I checked it out and it seems to be fully secured. I was pushing on the clutch with my hand as well while I was under there, and it seems to be pushing on absolutely nothing until about half way down. I know my clutch and it was not adjusted like this before.

Your clutch bracket is broken. This is exactly what happened to me before mine broke. I was lucky it snapped while I was in neutral sitting in my garage though. I took it out and welded it back together and put it back on. Works great and will never break again. If this isn't your DD I would suggest taking it out and inspecting it that way. It's hard to get in there and look at it while it's bolted to the car.
