A/C or other fan on, after engine off

Maybe this is normal, and it kind of makes sense, but I've never heard of a car doing this. One day I was driving around in hot weather (around 100 degrees F) with the A/C on, fan on 1. Twice I stopped somewhere, and when I got out of the car, some kind of fan in the engine area was still blowing loudly. Now maybe something needed some extra cooling, but I didn't see the thermometer on the dash stray from the middle of the dial. Also, I managed to stop the fan by putting the key in the on (not acc) position and then turning the car off, which is a bit weird. Any other experiences like this? It hasn't happened since, but I usually don't drive around that time of day.

Normal. Do a search.

All cars do it since the Civics started over heating in traffic several years ago.

that's the 3rd time in the past week that somebody posed this same question

the owners manual specifically tells you not to use the key to turn it off, congratulations

The attached schematic shows how RX-8 cooling fans are supposed to work.

Holy crap, those are some high temps for the fans to be kicking on. I'd always thought it was less than that.

and also- the RX8's gas vapor emission control actually runs a pump when the car is turred off.
