Buying a 8...compression question

Hey everyone...I was trying to get answers somewhere else, but got no luck so maybe someone is willing to help if I post here. I'm looking at 2004 RX8 and the dealership ran a compression test on it and they said it had 98 psi. I searched and found some info here http://www.racingbeat.com/mazda/performance/rotary-tech-tips/compression-check.html

my question is does this mean the engine is on its way to low compression?

Take it to a Mazda dealership and get a compression check.

Seriously did you search the forum?

This link should take you to the starting posts about compression, if it doesn't go to post #31 and start reading.

By the sounds of it you should read the entire thread as well not just that section on Compression

1 single compression number is exactly worthless to determining the health of a rotary.

You need 6 numbers, and an RPM. Miss any one of those, and the numbers are worthless. So "98 psi", even if that is taking the lowest of the 6 numbers, or an average, is still worthless, because 98 psi is failing at 260rpm or higher, passing under 260rpm ... if you are at sea level. That also makes things change.

Yea, with a proper compression test you should get three readings for each rotor. Anything in low 6's is failing, high 7's is healthy.
