Burnt Rubber Smell

hey everyone! i'm not much of a mechanic, but recently, i've noticed that whenever my car comes to a full stop, there's this odor that smells like burnt rubber. I'm not breaking hard and i'm not burning my clutch and i checked my oil levels and it's fine. I'm not sure what's causing my car to release this burnt rubber like odor. anyone have experienced this before? please let me konw, i'd appreciate it!

Check and see if you caught any plastic bag or whatever on your Catalyst Converter.

or open the hood, and look staright under your engine and see if you caught into in it.

Both happened to me before, it could hapen to you , or something else.

check anyway.

This has been happening to me too, on and off. At first, when the car was new last summer, I wrote it off due to breaking in (can smell some pretty odd scents ) and the heat in our area.
Its still doing it, on and off. Been in twice and there was oil all over the exhaust manifold.. I watched the guy when they were changing it and he turned when someone said something to it and it spilled over. Ran down I guess, as I use a funnel so it wasnt me!

I've even noticed a swirl of smoke if I open the hood as soon as I smell it.. and the hotter the engine gets, the stronger it is and longer it lasts.

I'm going back again to have them look again. I'll let you know.
Please let me know if you find out anything on yours..

PS.. I havent captured a bag underneath yet..

I have noticed the exact same thing recently, but I haven't thought to check for a plastic bag. Also, could be some spilled oil. Going to check for anything stuck to the car tomorrow

I have a little of that smell.. could be spilled oil from the oil change, or salty moisture evaporating from the hot parts (I notice it when driving in salty wetness in the winter).

I have the same smell....I was told it is due to the brakes being overworked, when the DSC is on , in winter or slipery driving conditions. when i turn it off i don't get the smell.

I have the same problem. I never had it before until after I got my new engine. And it has been getting worse... It smells the worst when it is raining.

I haven't had the chance to bring it to the dealer yet.

If anyone get news on this.. let me know if there was a specific problem or not.

either tyres, or your clutch, or like I said 3 months ago, u might just caught some plastic bag.

Check your bottom tray area, there was a time that, I have no idea how and why, a piece of foam on the street, actually slip thru that area, and was touching my belts. making this horrible smell for a whole day.

I was like wtf I checked everything but dont see any bags or whatever until I open the hood and start looking down ...... ahh there u go, pull it out and smell is gone.

I did a quick search and posted in another thread, that ended up being the Far East/Asia Region forum so I am reposting here where it seems a bit more appropriate.

I am having a similar problem, I am getting a burnt/hot smell from the rear driver's side tire. Specifically from around the tire, coming more from the wheel well than the actual tire. It appears strongest from around the wheel (not from the wheel though). It is also isolated to the driver's side rear tire. I have heard some people having issues of of plastic bags getting stuck but a visual inspection of the car just sitting on the ground doesnt reveal anything.

Its an '07 that I got in July and has about 12k miles. The smell just started this last week. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

It could also be the engine serpentine belt rubbing where it shouldn't be. Take a look under the hood while idling.
