Hey guys. I have a friend with an 8 who has a blown OMP. Apparently the dealership wants $1500 to do the repair, since it's not under warranty. He is thinking of doing some motor upgrades in the future, I already suggested the Sohn OMP, I was just wondering if anyone else here that was smarter than I am could come up with any better suggestions.

Sohn does not replace the original pump, only adds on to it.

 

Buy a used OMP......The adapter will still require a functioning pump

By blown what do you mean...leaking?? Lots of times a new gasket will help that!

 

I am not sure exactly, I am just going off of what he told me.

 

how did you know the omp died? Did your engine fail?

 

if the OMP die the ECU will go into limp mode instantly.

maybe thats how his friend found out ?

buy a new gasket ... I have a feeling thats all he need (if his car has not so much miles)

 

Well...it's kinda a rubber gasket It's definitely not a true o-ring

 

if the omp was leaking, i doubt the car would be able to notice

 

It's not my car, but would just pre-mixing do the trick as well?

 

hey all I am the friend that has the problem. chuck posted the thread for me because i never posted before. Let me publicly thank him for that. So this is what happened I started the car on a cold morning did not let warm up and pulled out of my drive. buy the end of the block i noticed the engine light was on. When I pulled out on to the street I noticed a complete loss of power. Would not rev over about 3000. I dropped off my daughter and limped to the dealer. When they finally got around to taking a look at it there was no loss of power but the code was set in the computer so the engine light stayed on. They told me that they thought the OMP was going bad. That it had a high ohm reading. now as chuck said they want $ 1,500.00 to fix it. what do I do.

When there is a an error anywhere in the engine, the computer in the car logs a number that corresponds to a certain problem. For example a 3 equals a clogged injector. Whatever it is once you know, then you can start from there as far as troubleshooting it.

 

Hell...I don't care...if it stops the oil leaking out you can call it anything you want


just quit arguing with me when I'm right..and get back to more important **** like the clutch bracket

 

OK I'll ask the dealer on Monday. If it is a pump code when what, is the pump hard to replace, is this something that i can do my self. Where would I get this part from. The dealer told me the pump was $1200.00 does that sound right?

 

You can buy used ones much cheaper($100ish).....They are not difficult to re/re ourself...they are a PIA to get to unless you have a hoist.......

 

no that does not sound right. first ? how many miles on the car. and note to all the gasket between the omp and the engine is copper..

Gasket/seal is rubber....copper gasket is between the oil lines and the pump...I was putting mine on today......

I just passed 30,000 miles. Where do I go to get a used OMP.

 

OMP is covered under drivetrain warranty.......why is the dealership not replacing it??
