Another clutch problem
I've read a number of the threads about various clutch problems, and have yet to see one that has similar symptoms as mine. Here's what's happening: Start car after sitting overnight, put into neutral. When I pull off the clutch pedal, the engine reduces in RPM's (average 200 - 500 RPM, depending on idle speed), car moves forward about a half-inch, idle goes back to normal. Along with this, reverse is occasionally difficult, going halfway, and no more without pulling the clutch out while holding the shifter in the same position, then it slides in. I'm suspecting the throw out bearing, and am scheduled to take it in next Monday, (2/16/04).
I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this, and if there is an existing thread, I apologize in advance.

The temperature has drifted from -15 to a blistering 55 over the past three weeks. i thought about that, too. But it doesn't seem to make a difference. I do have access to a heated garage, and can try to leave it there overnight, and see what happens.

Sounds to me like the pilot bearing is seizing to the transmission input shaft breifly on cold startup.

I'll post what I find out next week when I get back from taking it in. Unfortuantely, I don't have a dealer close-by... the nearest one is 50 miles away. The one I've gone to previously is 65 miles away. That's where I'm going to next Monday, assuming the roads and weather all cooperate I would have scheduled this for today/this week, but mr weather forecaster is saying that we're supposed to get another 4-6" by Thursday, but the rest of the week looks good after that. Hence the reason for waiting until Monday.

Yes, I have the same problem. I truly believe Mazda has a major problem here! Are you interested in the rest of my issues with the 8? Go here:
