I just recently got my car out of the body shop after I mashed the front end. The body shop had a problem finding all the parts to put it back together. I went to the Mazda dealer and looked at the 07 models to try to see if everything was put back right. I noticed that on the 07 model just left of the radiator looking through the opening below the grille, there is what looks like an air scoop which my 04 doesn't have. Can someone tell me if this is an air scoop and if it is on all the rx8's. Also what year did Mazda put the rock screen over the lower A/C condenser . My 04 never had one. Thanks

 

Are you talking about these two scoops? That photo is from an 2006 which is also the first year the A/C screens appeared. My 2004 also has those scoops, one is for the ECU box the other the Battery.

 

there are two air scoops one for the battery and one for the ecu... pretty sure on that..

and the rock screen came mid way in 05.

Hey thanks a bunch for your help. Damn thats something else they forgot. That makes 4 parts they left off so far! Twin city collision center sux. Will the rock screen fit on an 04 model without modification?

 

i think so.. but if you are going to do that i would get the rb or hymee screens... they take care of the oil coolers also..

but you have to do some work..

I'm totally jealous i want more air flow and a rock screen, without having to buy them extra . These are just good things to have for longevity.
