Aftermarket Ignition??
Hey there, I am after a upgraded set of Coil Packs, Leads for my 2005 231?
Ive heard that BHR is decent, But what others are there?
My question is im in the UK, Where would I get them from and what sort of ££?
Im not bothered if I have to buy from the good ol US of A, what sort of price are they there?
Cheers

I'm in the same boat, Slidin, is JDM good from here?? Nycgps, in your opinion is it worth upping the quality of the leads? I thought I'd do coils, plugs and leads in one go. Brettus tuned the car for oem coils so I'd probably stay with that.....although, another trip down to talk 8's could be fun too!!
Leads? U mean the spark plug wires ?
You can, I mean I have a set of RB wires, seems to be a better build than stock or NGK, but is it worth the extra cost? that's up to you to decide. mind you, the RB set does have more stable spark though, it's easily tested.

Thanks, the money isn't an issue luckily, it's more a case of what's the best common sense choice. Brettus had a nice set, I should have bought those, sometimes I'm a bit slow on the uptake!!
I was gonna build my own d585 coil kit with help from Rotaman but I quickly found the issue with my coils (lead fell out lol) so I'll do it later this year, my car is a bit of a garage queen
lol if money isn't an issue you should get the R Magic coils. Only 2 ******* grand lol

I must touch base with Rotaman as he seems to be the electrical guru. Actually, I might be up his way in a couple of weeks for a weekend away for my wife's birthday.
At $2k money might start being an issue. Lol. Why are they so much more expensive? Are they demonstrably better or just a lot of money??

Stephen if you come up our way then give me a call if you want to come and say hello, ph 09 4098198
I can show you what I have made for my ignition setup, and the type of ignition cable I use.
My car is in bits at the moment, as I'm doing some more mods which includes plenty of wiring.

Cheers for the comments folks,
I did hear some of the aftermarket coils were not as good as OEM (performance wise) maybe I shall just stick with OEM's with 8mm Leads...
Afterall I don't usually keep a car for more than a 2 years or so, So cant see me doing more than 20k in that time....
Cheers

All Japanese parts are considerably more expensive, some are worth it, some are ... meh.
and R-Magic is known to be one of the "overpriced" vendor. for the price I would just spend it on some other known proven company's stuff like Fujita or Knight Sports.
Are they worth it ? hell no, I mean even they are made from some sort of indestructible material. I would rather just get some OE coils and warranty them every year or 2 and save that 1800 bucks for something else. lol

if you can run more dwell/charge time, by reprogramming the ECU, then other coils can be more powerful than the stock coils.

The BHR ignition uses coils that use a longer dwell time, but work fine under normal conditions. The only time you need to add dwell is when you are boosted.
I've been running them (BHR) on my normally aspirated car.
There is some debate whether the Race Roots ignition is the same as BHR's. BHR says it is not. I don't believe the RR ignition comes with anyway to mount the coils and leaves that up to you.
