AC Mod?
Haven't seen much talk about removing power from the belt to get your HP return. Anyone done this? I bought a set of Lightweight pulleys plan on installing them as well. I never use my AC anyway so I figured id get the signifigant HP return from it instead.
Anyone seen the results on a rx-8? Should put roughly 30% more power to the wheels.

Zoom Zoom....
A/C should sap about 7hp from the engine crank - when it is on!
When the a/c is off, or under full throttle, the parasitic loss from the belt / clutch is negligible.
You'd do way better by reducing unsprung weight.
Or, taking your golfclubs and such out of the trunk.

you're not getting anywhere near that much hp by disabling the A/C. Good idea but it's just not realistic, sorry.

reminds me of a taxi cab driver I had once down deep in the interior of Mexico. It was probably 11PM at night and we were going a good 120 kph winding through mountain passes and he kept turning off the headlights.
After about 20 minutes I finally asked him WTF he was doing and he informed me that he was saving gas...

I guess I don't understand what "removing power from the belt" means. If the AC is off, the pulley turns freely.
One thing to keep in mind is that despite the indicator lights, the AC will ALWAYS be on with the blower, EXCEPT when the blower is in full-face mode. So, that is the way to turn it off without pulling a fuse.

When AC is not on you are not loosing any power because the wheel is disengaged from the unit and spins freely without any resistance.
With AC on you loos 5-7whp ... we had civic dynoed to see the differance .
