AC Compressor on cold start

AC Compressor on cold start
Has anyone noticed the AC compressor comming on during warm up?
I start my car every morning and allow it to warm for 5 min. or so before driving and if my heater is on (not the defrost) I hear the AC compressor kicking on and off.
Is this normal?
