My 88 RX-7(non-turbo) loved 87 octane. It ran ok on 92 or 93, but I could tell a rather large difference when I started to put 87 in it. It got better mileage, better throttle response and had all around better pickup. Not sure why either, and that was even after advancing the timing no less.

The RX-8 has only gotten 94 thus far. Perhaps I'll try a full tank of 87 and see what happens, of course as I'm putting the cheap stuff in a $30k sports car a paper bag WILL be over my head.

I have noticed absolutely no difference between 87 and 93 octane in power and mileage. It may ruin a little better with 87 but I can't defiantly confirm this. The only difference was the extra $3 missing from my wallet.

I don't know about you all ,, but here in Arizona in the high heat (100+) I can not use 87 or 89 octane fuel. If that grade is in the car and I step on the gas pedal to get on the freeway
the car pings like crazy. Any sudden acceleration is out of the question.
If the car idles for more that 4-5 minutes in traffic and I accelerate rapidly it PINGS.
I realize that the computer is trying to lean out the fuel as not to overheat.
But the few times in this heat I have used 89 octane the car hates it.
Now when the temperature comes down in the winter time (80's) ,I can put 89 octane in and don't have a problem.
All I know is I can not use lower octane grades in this heat.
And inside the fuel door is a small sticker that says "Premium Fuel"

Mazda has always "recomended" premium fuel for the rx8. Nothing new for 06.

What is a "good" fuel injector cleaner? Are there "bad" fuel injector cleaners? Not being a smartass, just want to pick your brain since I wouldn't have thought to do this. Glad I read it here even though I am one of the "other 50%" (e.g. dumbass A/T owner not inclined to drive aggressively every single time I get in the car).

But I love this car and want to pamper it and so I say thanks to anyone here who has a good idea how I can treat my car better. It was pretty great to be able to show the wife so many posts stating why I "need to drive the car aggressively". I wish one of y'all would post a thread saying that a 25 year old drop-dead gorgeous blond has to ride in the passenger seat weekly for proper engine maintenance. I might be stretching my luck trying to get her to believe that though; or she would decide that's when she needs to drive it each week.
