225kms or 139 miles on a full tank of 91 octane!!!
The last 4 or 5 tanks I've had, I've been under 300kms or 186 miles on premium 91 octane gas. On the website it says that I should be getting approx 12.8L/100km. That is not even close! WTF is going on!? Is that not a misrepresentation on Mazda's part? I understand the mileage on their site is a "estimate" and many factors are involved, but this is ridiculous! I've tried driving conservative and it doesn't matter. I drive in the city btw. We have to escalate this!!!

city driving can decrease mileage a great deal.
also, lower octane gas will give you better mileage.
two tanks ago i got about 180 miles on a tank. this last tank i got 230 and i had 1/4th of a tank left... the only change was I did more driving with less stops.
have you ever gotten over 16 mpg? There are some rx-8s with mileage issues - getting 8-13 mpg regardless of how the car is driven, and there is no known fix.

FYI
Your in city should be better, according to Mazda.
RX year m.p.g. m.p.g.
1978-1979 17/26(12a)
1981-1983 21/30(12a)
1984-1985 21/30(12a) 16/23(13b)
1986-1992 17/24(13b)
1993-1995 17/25 (13b)
2004-2005 18/24 (13b) Renesis
When developing the RENESIS, Mazda's engineers aimed to retain power output on a par with the turbocharged 13B-REW, the rotary engine that powers the Mazda RX-7, while offering improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.
What this design means to the consumer is better fuel efficiency and increased performance. Mazda estimates the RX-8 will get 20 percent better mileage in the city than the RX-7 did.
18/24 Better than 17/25 ????

Lower Octane gas may not be the best for your 8 just to get gas mileage. Lower octanes burn faster and while I dont know how it affects a rotory engine, early detonation of gas may not be good for you engine as it caues all sorts of knocking in conventional engines. I never did look to be sure, but recommending 91 octane vs. requiring 91 may be the difference here. If the manual says you MUST run 91, then the engine timing was more than likely designed around the burn rate of 91 octane gas. Anyone wanna jump on this? My electrical engineering degree doesnt help too much, but I did take a few thermodynamics classes...

Too many milage threads. Milage needs it's own discussion area.
87octane ok in most cases. I am using it now but I am not seeing a gain and so will go back to 91-93 octane

I switched to Shell V-power (in Singapore RON 98) to test it out....getting an extra 30 km's per fill based on city driving over Mobil 8000 (same RON). Previously got 350 km's on 52 L fill at Mobil....now getting 380 km's or better on the same fill volume (= 7.3 km/L) so pretty happy with it. However, no noticeable performance improvement with Shell over Mobil. Anybody know the difference in additives between the two??

City driving sucks gas. If you're caught in traffic, every minute you spend the engine is getting ZERO MILES per gallon, and can easily burn a half gallon of gas every 20 minutes or so of idling in traffic. That will totally damage your fuel mileage.
Last week, I got caught in traffic driving into downtown Chicago and did 10 miles in about 90 minutes. Burned a almost a quarter tank for a 30 mile trip as a result.
Alternatively, drove it into town yesterday for a midday meeting, no traffic, 65 mph all the way down and back. Burned a 1/4 tank on a 75 mile round trip.
5mph in traffic destroys your gas mileage.

Look who is here to give his two cents...LOL
Naaa, I've seen this over and over and unless you were stuck in traffic or get stuck in traffic alot you might want to talk to Mazda about 8-13mpg...no way that should be normal. But, traffic will KILL fuel economy so let us know what's up?
Or, call Mazda and cry until they wipe your tears away...cause I'f I got 8-13 normally...I'd be crying until I got rid of the car...just being honest, LOL.
