2004 RX8 most RWHP !??

Hey there,

I just read that the 2004 RX8 (that I own) has the most rear wheel HP because Mazda detuned all those that followed. Is this true ??? Anyone know for sure on this ? Anyone have the numbers of the more recent years ? I'm thinking of getting out of my 04 and into an 07 for instance and am curious if there's a difference.

Thanks !

I think there was something back then about Mazda claiming it had more HP than it really did. I don't remember exactly but I think they said it made like 250HP but after dyno's they showed not to be making that much and so Mazda stated a less HP number going forward.

That's all it was. Mazda came out with refined numbers after dyno's determined it wasn't making what the marketeers originally claimed. 2004 - 2009 all have the same Hp ratings (MT and AT discretes of course).

Sorry, your 2004 is just like everyone else's.

lol ... Actually I'm happy to hear that to be the case because I'm looking to get a new one (like an 07) and want the same experience.

So this is DEFINITE, all manuals for instance all have the same rear wheel hp 2004 - 2009 ?

Yes, same horsepower, although the 2009 did get a slightly different final gear ratio.

I kind of find it strange that the rx-8tu offered nothing more than a few body and interior options where as the 350Z offers the Nismo and Mustangs come with like 4 different engines and suspension setups.... even the RX-7 had 3 different options with suspension upgrades (if I remember correctly).

A little more torque in the low end, but it doesn't ultimately improve the 0-60 or top end. We have to await the 16X for a dramatic improvement.

'course in the mean time you could throw $7k worth of FI at your '04.

same here but i think they let it slide because he didn't ask, "who here has the most HP? my friend has a supra 2jz with 3,000 hp to the wheel with only a chip, is that doable?"
