13b REW Swap

Hey guys, I was hoping you guys can shine some light my way about the 13b REW swap. Here is my situation. I am coming out of my warranty and I have a 13b REW engine from 93+ rx7 and i was wondering... If i swap the motor into the RX8 am i going to have registration issues when it comes to register my car? Has anyone done the swap and registered the car without problems, such as: Having an older motor in a newer car and not a newer motor in an older car? Has anyone had any problems here is California? That is the only thing that is bugging me and keeping me from starting the Swaping proccess. Thanks guys.

If you got a 93' engine it's a REW motor not a turbo II motor.

California law states that any engine swap done to a vehicle must be an engine of the same year or newer and must keep all emissions components intact and must be functioning to meet smog regulations for the engine.

theres alot more things involved to swap in an -REW motor than just replace engine harness and custom mounts and add other ancillary parts such as a stock or programmable ecu, convert the fly-by-wire throttle to cable linkage, etc....

you're better off buying a turbo kit with the interceptor-X ecu from Mazsport than swap an -REW.... it will be much less expensive than the swap.

I've always thought swaps required you to meet emissions laws of the newer component e.g. if your car is a 2000 and your engine a 1995, you have to meet 2000 emissions regulations. However, if your car is a 1995 and your engine is a 2000 you still have to meet 2000 regulations. In my opinion, it's not worth it as I don't think you can get the 13B-REW to meet emissions and even if you do it'll be quite a battle to get it registered.
