Speed Rated
2007 6AT Touring is fuel cut at 125. From what I understand, it is limited because of the tires the car came with. The ones that came with my car are rated R, so going any faster than the tire is designed for and you are running a risk of a high speed blowout...
Going 170 and having your tires explode would be a bad day imo.
PS - I hope I'm wrong about what my tires are rated because I just looked at this web page and it said it's designed to 106 O_O

hmmm... i read something about this in the back of the manual from the car. i dont think that the tires are only rated to 106, i think its 135. if thats the case, then maybe its a good thing that the stupid limiters on there. (i would still like to get rid of it though....) im going to check it out now.

yeah, i just checked my tires. my tires are stock and came with the car. they are the----Dunlop SP Sport D8Z's (i think i might have mixed up the sport and sp but that doesnt really mean anything) they are rated up to 149 MPH. they're "V" rated speed tires so this whole speed limiter due to tires thing in my opinion is plausible. we still do have good (descent really) treadwear though.

119mph and ran out of road but it wasnt really gaining much anyways at that point.
I dont think the road distance is the problem since I've gone 130 in the same area in my other car. I just need to get to that speed faster

I went to pomona track and got to about 140 mph, then everytime I hit 142 the car kind of splutters and decelerates on its own, I haven't started the modding yet so it maybe the ecu?

hmmm...im beginning to wonder what the deal is with the different speeds that everyone is posting. supposedly, its limited to 125 mph. yet, could this be on only some models? makes me wonder if i hit the limiter in my car or was it simply because it was just not enough room. anyway, i cant really catch a top speed right now, FHP is all over the interstates in FL. i almost drove right into a speed trap at 80 mph in a 65 tonight. (scared me BIG time, i thought for sure they were gonna nail me.)
oh yeah and taja, be careful if your running stock tires, check the speed rating of them. last thing that we would want to hear is that you wrecked your lovely car because of a tire blowout.

The speed can vary especially when you are running a down slope. Thats why some can get slightly more than others.
Btw anyone knows the speed rating for AD07 and does it make a difference if the thread is running out on the tires?

the speed ratings are in the manual, and it probably does make a difference. i do know that going fast speeds do things to the tire. i was in a friends car and going 130+mph and when i got out of the car a few minutes later i smelled burning rubber, like we had just peeled out. although we didnt, the tire was still HOT.

I'm confused by what some people are typing too. I thought the speed cut was 180 km/h, which is about 115 mph. 125 mph would be about 200 km/h. I suppose the difference is based on country and laws. In Japan and many asian countries, the speed cut is 180 km/h.
The ECU setup may be different in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Asia, etc... thus allowing 200 km/h (125 mph) and different speed cuts. But I'm not sure about this, it might be that there is a "universal" speed cut for the RX-8 that is 115 mph (180 km/h) and people are just saying things. People could also be going downhill and thus getting 125 mph and up that way.
If you have your ECU flashed by RB, Re-Amemiya, or with an Int-X than this would all mean nothing as you can go the max. 150 mph (240 km/h) if your car or tires can handle it.

The only thing that keeps me below 150 mph (240 km/h) is the tire ratings and it would suck to have a tire blowout at that speed.

I have seen it with my own eyes that its possible to go over the speed limit (which we have tested on many rx8-JDM spec is set to 187km/h) BUT only on the down slope and it not going to be a huge difference, probably looking at 192km/h and thats only for a very brief moment before heading down to 180km/h.
The fuel has already been cut but its just gravity and momentum thats doing the work.
Btw found out the speed rating for AD07 is W = 270km/h

hey that makes sense, (what sgrenesis said) like i said before, i've gone over 125 (127) but only on a downhill slope. i'd be curious to find out if switching to triptronic would actually enable one of us to break the limiter.

Oh, sorry to mention, I was going down a slope, I'm not crazy enough to do it on a regular basis yet, most of the time I go at 100 or so on high way and the engine was already sounding like a gutted boar
btw......I heard that the 04 AT are all capped at 120......anyone?
