Turns out it was a oil cooler, for the supercharger.

shadycrew31 06-09-2010 03:46 AM

Boom wheres my $5

shadycrew31 06-09-2010 03:48 AM

Im curious is this just for the 4 port? From what I got on the website the 4 port numbers were posted but nothing was said about the 6 port. I dunno maybe I'm being a dumb ass and not reading correctly.

tofu_box 06-09-2010 04:13 AM

no idea, what it was for, but we gonna have a look @ the knightsport flashed ecu that came with the kit.

See what the previous car was and the mapping soon

Brettus 06-09-2010 05:56 AM

thought you were going to use protuner ?

tofu_box 06-09-2010 06:10 AM

i am,

but we gonna have a look @ the knightsport ecu to see their tune, and see what sort of trims they are using as a baseline to work with the kit.

Just that there is not really any info at all on this kit on this forum,

So any sort of info would be useful

Brettus 06-09-2010 06:14 AM

you will be chasing your tail trying to reverse engineer their tune

tofu_box 06-09-2010 06:16 AM

i see, but wouldnt having a look at their target lamba give some baseline for where to begin with the tune?

Brettus 06-09-2010 06:22 AM

FI is FI - there is more information around the forum on this than you will glean from doing that . Even if you do get the target Lambdas - you have no way of knowing if that was the actual lambdas achieved with the tune - could be totally misleading .
Timing info might be usefull - that is about it .

how on earth will you be able to pull that info out of the ecu anyway ?

tofu_box 06-09-2010 06:27 AM

its a stock rx8 ecu, that has been reflashed by knightsports.

Provided the harness can be used (great doult here)

plug it in, plug the protuner in, get values.

PT cannot do that

tofu_box 06-09-2010 06:35 AM

ahhh right brettus i remeber now.

When he did it, he took actual A/F Ratios and then gave it to me in terms of lamba.

My bad there.

No one ask me? I am probably the first one here who have seen this kit installed and in action.

Knight sports 4 beat ecu provide the baseline tune and disabled some cel

That long thing is the supercharger oil cooler. The silver one is the intercooler. It mounts right next to the intake.

Knight sports Japan offer 3 pulley option for this kit. Smallest wheel gives ya faster respond but lower boost. Larger pulley of course gives ya more power but a little slower responds.

When u get this kit, they recommend you to get their radiator and the radiator relocation kit.

Their radiator, I have it. Its made by koyo with Knight sports spec. 100% bolt on and its core size its 53mm thick(stock is 38mm)

The relocation kit on the other hand. Will change the radiator mount to the bottom of the under tray. Make it into some kind of v-mount configuration. I will get it with the SC kit later next year

They said their tune is very conservative. And its on street gas.

tofu_box 06-10-2010 09:07 PM

oh thanks for that

In terms of the radiator i got the BHR auto one.

Would it still work with the V mount offered by KS?

Plus the tuning would still be better with a proper MAF tuned, rather then baseline tuned?

My pulley is about 12 cm from one end to next, do you know which pulley this is?

Also did your kit come with the instructions for installation? if so could you copy it and send it?

Regards
Jason

Im not sure if the BHR one would work with KS's Radiator Relocation kit. Cuz the one I saw was installed with KS's Radiator and its MT.

In Japan, Knight Sport will flash your ECU PLUS E-Manage Ultimate for complete control. Not sure how they do it for their AU customers.

I forgot the pulley size, I think u got the middle one Im not 100% sure.

I did not get the kit yet, I experienced the kit in person when I was in Hong Kong 2 months ago. if I didnt have to fix my FC I probably got the kit already. Also, this kit is "not supposed" to be installed by end-user. If in Japan, you have to go to their shop, they will charge u installation and tuning fee, and do all the work for you. For the Hong Kong kit I saw, Knight Sports actually sent a team of people over to do the install + Tune, lots of $$$, but the result was amazing.

gregs 06-11-2010 12:07 AM

do you know what kind of numbers most of the kits get out after knight sports does the tuning? look foward to seeing more of this build

nycgps 06-11-2010 12:31 AM

the one I saw had a very conservative tune, cuz its a DD for him so he was not looking to pull crazy numbers.

but as far as I remember it was something like in the 270+/- range. Dunno which Dyno he used tho.

rotarenvy 06-11-2010 04:57 AM

I've been running a rotrex (same SC) now for about 2 years. brettus is right FI is FI and the hymee pro-tuner will be fine for the application if you pay attention to the MAF. I'm running the protuner and it is a good bit of gear.

as for the pulley sizing 120mm is about the biggest pulley rotrex makes. but it really depends on the diameter of the crank pulley. for example I'm using a 70mm pulley but I could do the same gearing with a 90mm pulley. with both sizes you can work out what's happening.

...

apart from your last statement, that is a contradiction of how a centrifugal SC works, it depends which pulley your talking about?

if you change one pulley sizes compared to the other (SC and crank):

a smaller supercharger pulley gives more boost and more low rpm boost (more low end power, better response)..
a bigger SC pulley gives lower boost, and less low rpm boost/response.

a bigger crank pulley will give more boost and more low rpm boost.
a smaller crank pulley will give less boost and less low rpm boost.

tofu_box 06-11-2010 10:19 AM

Now in regards to this, i made a wrong note:

The pulley wheel that is attached onto the SC is actually 95mm

The one i measured at 120mm was actually the crank pulley that came with the kit

this is why i said i dont remember :P

Im thinking I might go for the biggest pulley ... I can do this after summer I hope.

I'm guessing that the SC pulley will be around 100-110mm.

the agency power pulley is very small. you might not be able to fit a third pulley over the top of it. you might have to go back to the std pulleys

Brettus 06-11-2010 06:15 PM

hey rotaenvy - have not hear much from you lately - what is the latest on your setup ?

I've been trying to avoid spending money on it. in it's latest configuration it's pretty good it starts to boost 3000rpm and I have 5psi by around 4000rpm then it climbs to 9 but fluctuates wildly for some reason, either belt slip or motor issues. the MAF still has issues and I have just started to address that with a new filter and maf tube.

tofu_box 06-11-2010 09:52 PM

ok, on a side note the oil filter on rotrex superchargers, does that need to be changed?
