what sort of supporting mods would you recommend for a daily
olddragger?

at the moment not looking at tracking

due to financial :)

Affording this car/maint/upgrades is abit tough on the wallet for a uni student, however 2 jobs is holding the front line.

and im building a reserve for the new engine *tap wood* which the car wont require :)

In regards to that duct, im gonna try fabricate my revi duct to work with the kit, if not i'll use the penis design :P

you talking the Racing Beat duct? Good luck with that

because they mount the oil cooler right next to their own duct.

You 100% need to get a bigger Radiator. KnightSport has its own Radiator (I have it) and its great at keeping the water temp stable. at 53mm (stock is 28mm), its very tight fit (but it did fit)

It supposed to come with E-mange Ultimate + 4-beat ECU tune (pre programmed), but I guess you won't be getting the 4beat ECU (mostly to turn some CEL off and some minor tuning to support E-Manage Ultimate)

shadycrew31 06-01-2010 09:43 PM

i would suggest a BHR ignition or similar, sohn adaptor, premixing, a new fuel pump, Gauges to monitor AFR's and Boost... Thats about all I can come up with, OD might have some more things I forgot to mention.

Giustino 06-01-2010 10:19 PM

i agree with nycgs, upgrade the radiator, better to do it when the engine bay is mostly pulled apart....the BHR is the best and ONLY one for the AT i believe....or run a second radiator where the space is for the second oil cooler...ask brettus, i think he did it for his turbo install with good results. that would do for a daily.

When tim tunes the Pro tuner get him to set the fans to come on earlier!
- run a 70/30 water/coolant or 80/20 + waterwetter.
- run a full synthetic (i run 10w-40 royal purple see harold@performancelub tell him Justin sent you...:)) and premix saber pro also can get it from harold!
- a good automatic synthetic tranny fluid is probably a good idea i recommend redline.

Giustino 06-01-2010 10:22 PM

Oh and sell the promaz ignition and get BHR and set the dwell to i think it is 5ms (check with the guys at BHR...this was off total memory)

tofu_box 06-01-2010 10:31 PM

see the radiator is interesting, because i have spoken to people here in AUS with upgraded FI cars, auzoom (andrew), my mechanic.

They all believe a upgrade in radiator for a street car makes no sense at all, and is not needed.

i got a walbro fuel pump + gauges set.

I believe in the future when i have enough reserves i might look into a new thermstat, radiator, 2nd oil cooler, when i am going to go tracking.

But right now i really cant see the point of it for everyday cruising.

Unless you guys know otherwise :)

what about the Mishimoto Radiator? or that no go for autos?

Im using Motul 5w-30 at the moment, and Motul Tranmission Oil

However next service i'll be changing to Castrol Edge 5w30.

Too many bad stories with Redline for my liking

I really dont see the point in the BHR coil upgrade when i have the Promaz one, both are using bosch coils, and my promaz one has been fine.
These sort of money i believe can be saved to put towards a more worthwhile investment, (eg a savings or a new engine just incase)

Not saying that BHR is worse then Promaz one, but the double expenditure on something similar is abit effy with me.

Giustino 06-01-2010 10:40 PM

Mishimoto = crap and should be a no go for both transmissions. stock is better unless you change to BHR or mazmart one.

Yea not going with map tuning, using protuner for maf :)

Oh sorry I didnt see your siggy.

I was just saying BHR or similar obviously the promaz fits the bill.

Good luck with the summer heat.

tofu_box 06-02-2010 04:18 AM

yea, if it starts overheating or going up during spring, then i'll get a radiator

nuke0907 06-02-2010 08:38 AM

FYI, nobody makes an aftermarket radiator for an automatic except for BHR. you can surely use one from an MT but you will have to add a separate transmission cooler.

olddragger 06-02-2010 09:00 AM

Secondary radiator. I will send the plans to ya if you like---tonight. COst less than $100.
Oil pressure regulator mod from Mazmart.
Rest it seems you have covered
Interesting if that single oil cooler will be enough
OD

tofu_box 06-02-2010 12:40 PM

Thanks for the offer olddragger

But i just purchased the BHR radiator another 720 out the door :(

I thought since im boosting my revs to 8-8.5k revs, the upgraded auto cooler may be needed

Since its a centrifugal supercharger aswell, id need the higher revs to see the peak powers

Would the oil pressure regulator mod work with the new walbro fuel pump for BHR? (not the entire BHR fuel pump) but the walbro one they are offering.

Yea we will have to see for the oil cooler, that is why the oil temp gauge was highly important for me, we will monitor the heat during winter here.

Depending on how that performs we will decide whether the oil cooler will be added, that being said in the future it will be a sure increase, but

The costs are really adding up!

Its already 7k+ without installation/tuning.

Im going for a professional install though, as no one here really has the knightsport kit, therefore data will be scarce. so looking at prob 2kish mark for the extra parts, intercooler piping treatment, couplers, Installation, Tuning

Editted First Post to include current build list of parts purchased/on the way

shadycrew31 06-02-2010 02:25 PM

Im interested to see how it all works out for you and the power you produce. Either way its always fun going boost.

mdw1000 06-02-2010 10:49 PM

What are your ambient temps like there? I've got a roots blower running at 5 psi, and I think the stock cooling would hold up fine for street use here. Only time I've ever had temp issues is at the track, and we finally got those under control.

If you decide to track, I'd recommend a larger secondary radiator, second oil cooler (using a stock one from an MT parts car), Mazmart water pump, and a mazmart thermostat. Haven't tried the mazmart thermostat yet, but I've heard good things and have one on order.

tofu_box 06-02-2010 10:56 PM

in summer it can get up to 40 degrees so 104 F, in winter now its at 44F, you are still recommendign a 2nd radiator after BHR upgrade?

mdw1000 06-02-2010 10:57 PM

I see you are planning on raising the redline. You might want to use a trans temp gauge to monitor that. I've left my redline at 7.5K and haven't had trans temp issues, but I don't know what the extra 1000 rpm will do.

My gauges are a Scangauge (I use it to monitor coolant temp and intake temp), an oil temp gauge, and oil pressure gauge, and a trans temp gauge (i just use another oil temp gauge for this).

mdw1000 06-02-2010 11:08 PM

The BHR radiator didn't improve on track coolant temps for me. The trans temps did drop some.

I think it is a better radiator, but I think the design of the area around the radiator keeps any radiator from making a big improvement, at least in my case. The radiator itself allows for better airflow, but it is difficult for more air to get to it because of the area in front of and behind the radiator.

The large second radiator mounted in the undertray area made the biggest difference in coolant temps.

But if you are not tracking it, I'm guessing you will be fine.

The BHR rad did improve cruising coolant temps for 09Factor in the desert, so YMMV.

tofu_box 06-02-2010 11:10 PM

mmm ok.

So you said the manual oil cooler works?

is that the RHS oil cooler?

Would it work on a Australian Model Rx8?

mdw1000 06-02-2010 11:26 PM

Yeah, we added a RHS cooler from an MT. I assume it would work fine on an australian car. Just make sure you get all the oil lines, etc with it to connect it.

On track, the oil cooler dropped oil temps by 30 to 40 degrees. The addition of the second radiator saw the oil temps drop even more.

At my last track day, the oil temps stayed in the mid 180s F. Coolant and trans temps were around 210 with the second radiator. Without the second radiator the coolant temps would approach 240 degrees if I'd let them, and I assume higher.

But again, if you aren't tracking it, you might be ok with stock cooling. Do you see those really hot days for long periods or just sporadically?

tofu_box 06-02-2010 11:33 PM

few days at a time

UPDATE

Supercharger Kit arrived at my dealer.

He has sent me some photos

Updated on First Page.

Is that a 2nd oil cooler im seeing?

tofu_box 06-03-2010 08:15 AM

Also the SOHN adapter, what does people think about it?
its this one right? http://www.rotaryinsider.com/diy-tac...pter-gap28.htm

How much 2stroke does it consume per tank?

Regards
Jason
