Vin would double cluth EVERY shift in a drag... because its cooler that way! ha

just think, if chuck norris expressed an interest in the RX-8. we would have triptronic then, as the std auto is NOT good enough for him, yet he cant drive a 6MT, if he were to kick the clutch... the clutch, motor, and tranny would come flying out of the ground as a molten hunk of raw metal somewhere on the other side of the world(after passing through the earths core in approx .00003 milliseconds) killing some innocent foriegn kid. and we ALL know that chuck hates killing children.

Ok so just to let everyone know, I went to the Mazda motor co. and asked them directly the Q. Here is what they told me.
They said they even get the rumors that the 6AT is a 6 port but it is not and both the 4AT and the 6AT are the same HP now the older 04 4speed AT had 197hp but the 05, 06, 07 AT tranny have 4 ports and 212hp.......................... Now if anyone has anything else to say about it. Go down to the Mazda Motor co. in Irvine California which is right accross from the Ford Motor co. which by the way they own Mazda, and ask them yourself. I am tired of this topic. I am done here.

next time you get with your 6AT mate - have a look under the bonnet & compare how many intake runners you have vs him . Then get back to us .
edit : actually -skip that - I don't know if you will see the difference .

also - I call BS on you beating a 6MT - you would need to be turboed to do that.

Well Mazda employees (in my personal experience), particularly MazdaUSA employees, don't know anything about the Rx-8. I've called them (M-USA) 3 times with questions and got nothing useful. The 4 port originally stickered with 210hp. After the great HP crash of 2003, it was left with 197. It stayed 197 on Mazda's website (I checked every model year when it posted). Personally, I think 197 is optimistic, and I'd lay a grand on the 212 being overrated.

The 6 speed is a 6 port motor, listen to the people who have looked at the motor not some dumbass that looked at the same outdated website as you and told you that, you know they do not update their site too often. Do you think the most well respected shops for rotaries are stupid. To give you an idea of how ignorant the people at MUSA are on my FC they told the dealer to replace the engine after looking at the car and guess what the engine was fine it was a fuel pump that was broke.

PS Look at the 07 brochure it clearly states the 6 auto is a 6 port motor

for future questions about the rx8, chances are that the answer on this forum is the right one (especially when compared against a mazda mechanic)

ahhh, the wonderful world of the internet. where everything is true and has nothing bad on it. (ignorance is bliss).------but yeah good point, most everybodies questions are probably going to be answered here. speaking of questions, the 6 port 6speeds make 212hp, is that at the wheels or the crank?

and THAT is why you sensed the aggresion and dissapointment in my previous posts. it feels shitty to own such a unique car knowing that there are other owners out there who have no more knowledge about the 8, and are this ignorant and stubborn. ignorance isnt a bad thing, we are all ignorant until we learn, but you were stubborn. even after it was explain how "dumb" Mazda dealers and MUSA in general can be, you just asked another "guy with a mazda cap on"

thanks guys for chiming in with what i was saying about the very respectable shops that have had engine laying in parts, and call it a 6 port. and thank whoever it was for finding the flyer thingy, i spent a while looking and then decided Mazda just never updated.

been shown on this forum a number of times to be 215 ish at the crank for the 6MT - 6 port . Guess you could say the AT will be 20 hp less than that if Mazdas exageration is across the board .

you'd think instead of magazine racing some of these guys would just get an 04 and an 06 and just dyno both.

But then they would actually know for sure, and real knowledge is rarely allowed on the internets

Its not that I believe a guy wearing a Mazda hat, no in fact he did not have one on, he ownes the very first production 8 produced and he was the one who gave the go a head to make the 8. So yes I am going to believe people who build, and work on the cars over someone who is just trying to sell aftermarket parts for them and will tell you anything to get your money. This is how I got far in life and have the things I have because I dont just listen to the first person trying to sell me something. I get more then one fact from many sources. But you can all believe what ever you choose I am not going to bash you for it like you do me nore say anything bad about you because you have the right to believe what you choose. Its the right that I fight for you to have being military. So bash away say what you want I dont care it is only on the internet and its not like your in my face doing it so I am not going to get all heated. Have a nice day all.

The damn corrupt company (ford) makes it even worse by not owning Mazda... They just bought "majority interest" so that they can dictate what goes on without the responsibility of ownership... I wish I could buy majority interest in something and then ignore it until it starts doing well... Not to mention using Mazda as "collateral" for more loans... Would suck to see Mazda get repo'd... Would be ironically funny, but would still suck.

I commend you for standing up for what you believe - that is important .
You are only being bashed because what you believe goes against what practically everybody else knows . Someone just produced a spec sheet that disproves what you say but hey just maybe that is wrong ????? I don't really know .
The other claim you made (that you beat off a 6mt ) goes against what we all know as well so of course you are going to get bashed for that too . If you read the Petit SC thread you will see that a SCd Auto can see off a stock 6MT (just) . Do you really think your electric hair drier can get performance increases similar to a belt driven supercharger?

I am not saying that the Hair dryer was the thing that did it. A lot of things like the Carbon fiber drive shaft that the AT does not normally come with, the RP supercat, the catback exhaust, the lighter weight rotors, there was a lot that has been done to the car that has not been mentioned, the only reason the AT is not fast is because of the intake ports and tranny, and a few small things. But if you would have read the rest you would clearly see that I stated that if they had any of these mods that they would still beat us, I was up against a stock 8 6Speed MT, he is in my RX8 car club and the next meet I will try to make a vid and post it. And you can also get your AT ported if you make sure they deal with rotory and are very reputable, I plan on having mine done. I do stand up for what I believe in your right, it comes with being military.

I would like to see that vid - just make sure its not a 5 speed MT before you post it

BTW - have you seen a drag race between a 4AT & a 6MT . There is one floating around on U tube . 6MT really kills it - not even remotely close .

Edit : here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNjOG5fRSd0

If you think your mods will close up that kind of gap you are delusional ....
