Question

MazSport:

What kind of tuning have you done with the Interceptor X? I have a CZ unit and have tuned it quit nicely but never had it dyno'd (successfully).

The upgrades cost about 2400 and the base line numbers are around 118, I know since this is my car that was dyno'd. I feel a huge diffrence i just changed my cat to the RP supercat and im going to change my exhaust to the turboxs since I do plan on putting a turbo in the AT not sure what kinda numbers ill get im just hoping for around 230 whp maybe 240. I just doing everything else before i get the turbo so I dont jack anything up.

Actually the owner of this car and myself were discussing that quite abit. When somone is ready for the turbo automatic I personally would not recommend a large turbo or any RPM/Boost specific blower. IMO the car needs torque and power lower in the RPM band. Years ago we did a Greddy t78 on an automatic FD-RX-7 and although quite exciting on the interstate, around town it was a point it, wait, no wait, and then off like a rocket experience. IMO the RX-8 auto needs instant boost to bring the fun factor way up! I'm ready, any takers? Scott

Thats massive - before 118 - after 149 - 31rwhp gain !
You AT guys should be all over this like a rash !

Pity you don't have the stock dyno overlayed to make the comparison .

Scott:

Can you PM offline to let me know how the Interceptor X works? I am familiar with the CZ unit as I have one. What parameters can be tuned? I am used to the A/F and timing advance.

Thanks!

wow this really is tempting. i know these are silly questions but should this be simple enough for a good rotary tuner to extract the best potential from it and would it be fine for a daily driver?

im pretty confident in the shop and i know i would want an int-x when i get a turbo or sc in the future. damn you extended warrenty.

Well buddy I dont know what land your living in or what your smoking but your way out in left field. 140+ stock well we got that number after scott first starting tuning with the upgrades and worked are way up to 150. So 140 stock I dont think so hell just ask scott what it was. With interceptor-x and upgrade we made 130 without it being tuned but hey you make 140 with nothing so ya.

Power levels on the 8 seem to vary a lot, but if I had to guess, most of them would be more like 140-150 whp stock, no? Maybe this particular car was in a poorly tuned state? I'd be interesed to see the results from tuning an AT8 that didn't start so low in whp numbers.

Let's not get crazy here just yet. 118 is very low for a stock 4port. mid 130's is "normal" (only seen a few dynos). More than likely, most people will not see that large of a gain. More like 10-15hp, depending on the "crappiness" of the stock performance.

Assuming normal drivetrain loss, and that 197hp is correct (which it isn't), the car should be in the 160's stock. All dynos I've seen put it near 135rwhp (which equates approximately to 170bhp (not even close to the +/-5% requirement)). A 118whp, 3000lb car would get to 60 in about 10-11 seconds (guesstimate). Mine is certainly much quicker than that, stock...

[Edit] I'm not doubting the dyno or the stock hp claim at all. If I had such a poor performing 4port, I'd drop the dough on an Interceptor as well. Luckily I don't.
