Want advice on a cold air intake

Hi all

Just to state im new to doing after market work to any form of cars. I got my rx8 about a year and a half ago and i want to start doing some work on it ( a little here and there when i have the money).

i been looking online for a cold air intake (i figured i would start with a intake frist)
and i dont know much about the different brands to pick threw ... so i thought i would ask ppl who have already done this .

What would be a very good brand to go wiht for my rx8 ,that i dont have to cut anything to start fitting in a cold air intake in? (also someone stated to me that some of them shake alot and become very anoying ) So any adivice on what to look at would be great

thanks for all the help

None of them will give you any real gain. So, it's purely for sound or looks on the 8. I went with the K&N Typhoon Version 2. It's a short ram not a cold air, so don't know if that's what you're looking for. It's loud, looks good, and is affordable. Do a search or look at the intake sticky. They have a bunch of info.

well when you are looking at getting a cold air intake or CAI, with the 8, basically all you will get is sound and looks. CAI's only add about 1-2 hp. personally, i just modded my own intake. look around, there are lots to choose from. There is AEM, or Mazdaspeed, K&N, HKS, and a couple others. virtually all of those will net you the same gains in hp, but others are louder than others, and look different.

if you want an exhaust also, it is the same situation as an intake. it will only net you 1-2 hp, and the only thing that changes between them is sound.

the search button, will become your friend on this site, or you will be flames, just an FYI. or you can use google to look for threads on this website.

i suggest you go here also and read the FAQ https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-faq-9/

Both of you are spreading false info. There was a group of 8's that dynoed the same day. Everyone with an intake was at least 5hp or more than the stock intake. Keep in mind that's just on a dyno with a fan blowing on it. Even Racing Beat will tell you the K&N gains the most hp but the sound is obnoxious.

BTW: this doesn't belong in the "major hp" forum.

Was going to write something to this effect. Everyone seems to so easily pass off the intake and exhaust does nothing mantra. But this has not been found to be true numerous times.

One independent test of the RB intake verified that it does in fact add 2-3 peak whp...but in the midrange it added 10whp. For everyday driving, if you want to keep the car NA I'd say that's a very good improvement.
