nope, HKS let out some info in the very beginning of the year and hasnt spoken a word since, it should have been released in summer

and johnrx8, ive never heard of blitz planning a kit...they barely make any turbo/supercharger kits, only 3 of them.

People were showing the european Blitz kit, and another poster showed the actual RX8 kit. It was about $7,000 in the UK. Don;t know how much they would charge here. Looks like a small roots unit.

I'm still patiently waiting for what HKS has to deliver. Turbo or Blower.

Hopefully the price (after install) doesn't exceed $10k...otherwise, It's not happening.

Unless of course, it gave over 300whp at moderate (not max) boost.

SD, dont worry about it topping 10k, very unlikely, id say about 7k-8k would be the most they will put something out for. if it is 10k, you could go all out and get a fully tuned and installed PTP or SFR which low boosts at 300 hah.

Hi guys,
I actually got a ride in the pettit racing car at Road America this summer.
Iwant that kit so bad!!
He only revved it to 7500 but the power felt huge!
All these kits make good power but the real reason I've gotta have this one is the unbelievable sound it makes when accelerating.
I can't find the words to describe it It's sound wicked.
Unlike any car I've ever heard.
Can't wait!!

Hello everyone,

I am an owner of a 04 manual RX8, as well as a 93 RX7. I would like to increase the performance of my RX8 and am curious how easy it is to install the Greddy Turbo bolt on kit. I am basically a novice in the mechanic area, but do all my simple work (brake pads, oil changes, fuel filter change etc. etc.) Is it a good idea for me to install the turbo myself? Or is this something I should definately have someone else do given my limited experience? If I do the work myself, what tools should I consider purchasing?

Also, I notice that the Greddy Turbo is not "street legal". What exactly does this mean? Does this mean my car will fail any emissions inspection in the future? If so, is there an easy way to turn the turbo off, or perform some easy function so that I would pass an emissions inspection without completely taking the thing off?

Any additional thoughts on the matter are greatly appreciated.

I would really love it if my 8 was as fast as my 7!

where are you located (trying to find out street legal stuff)?

you can install this on your own...my friend did it and he just used jack stands he didn't even have a lift

that being said it is very time consuming and the e-manage software that comes with is not mature enough...but the e-manage gold may change that

once you get the turbo you'll never stop tuning it it'll be lots of fun

I am located outside of Baltimore, MD. Is there a site I should consult to find the street legal stuff for my state? Thanks for the info.

I will reiterate:

Greddy is NOT set up to deal with end customers. They are only supposed to deal with authorized dealers who are intended to sell and install the components.
By purchasing a component from a dealer that is willing to sell direct (which is not their agreement with Greddy) or on the grey market and installing it yourself, you are forgoing the relationship with Greddy that the dealer is supposed to have.
I consider it quite noble that Kenji and Benny are willing to help anyone directly. I think it is mostly because they are learning a thing or two that way to improve the product.
Normally, you would get the cold shoulder completely.
Try calling HKS directly for support some time and see how far you get.

Now, it is Greddy's fault for allowing their dealers to sell direct. That is just a bad business practice.

If I were distributing Greddy products (which I will be in Phoenix) I will not sell without doing the install and you would loose my waranty by going direct and chainging things yourself.

I can verify that. They won't even email a product data sheet to you for a friggin' blowoff valve. Its just about re-goddam-diculous.

I was just reading in R&T that the new Porsche 911 Turbo will be using a BorgWarner variable vane turbo. This varies the angle of attack of the turbine vanes based on the airflow velocity allowing the unit to spoool up faster at lower RPM and flow more efficiently at higher RPM. The net effect is a wider RPM range for full boost which translate to more HP and torque over a wider RPM band. Does anyone know if this unit would work for the RX8 and is there an aftermarket shop working on a kit using this or a similar unit?

Thanks guys for the help with adding more hp to my 8. One thing I dont understand, I have a 05 6-speed that rates at 238hp stock. Is the turbo or supercharger option the only one I have to increase that to around 260-270.

You can tell I don't no much about this, but I Love my 8 and just want it a little faster.

Ok well after reading through this thread I found it pretty interesting. and a pretty good debate. Now I am new here and new to the rx8 slowly learning it's capabilities.
but I do want to make a couple of statements from what I gathered.
As far as anyone wanting to go with a turbo for FI, it should be assumed you will need some kind of engine management. Prefferrably something that will allow you to adjust fuel and timing. Timing being the key word if you want to make safe power, adjusting fuel is simply just not enough. whether or not the kit comes with it or not that should be something the consumer should understand and look for.
Also questioning about needing a blowoff valve, well yeah you do need one, or a bypass valve, same differance, instead of blowing out into the atmosphere it just recirculates back into the intake, but no you don't need a noise maker. The bypass valve saves the turbo, releases pressure so you don't get turbo surge, which is bad for the bearings and will shorten the life spaned of your turbo. All turbocharged cars that I can think of come from the factory with one. As far as the t4 being laggy well if you want to hit higher numbers and more horsepower with a turbo you are going to have sacrifice something. You can't have it both ways. Now I know this is completly diff. but it's the same concept, My wrx didn't start to hit boost untill 4k but when it hit nothing had a chance, passed everything but a gas station. I am not sticking up for the company only because I didn't research them and I do not know how they are representing their kit, but there is nothing wrong with selling a kit with hardware only just as long as they make it clear.
