One of the things I've seen through reading a lot of threads here is that most turbocharged Rx8's pull their cat and go with a straight pipe, due to heat if nothing else. I understand the Rx8 has hot exhaust to begin with and this gets worse with a turbocharger. For those of us stuck in emissions testing states (I'm in Columbia, MD) what do we have to do to pass emissions? Will the car with a turbo and a cat be emissions passable, then I could pull the cat afterwards or would I have to completely undo the turbo to pass?

Anybody else in MD have advice about the turbo process?

Do they do a visual inspection as part of the Smog Cert? If so, you could have a bit of trouble concealing the fact that your car is modified. What kind of turbo? front mounted?

the turbo + cat question, not sure on that but I would think you would not pass.

 

I'll let you in 2 years when I go for inspection. My brother's shop does inspections, but, like with my last car, he'll have to do an OBDII scan for codes. If I can pass that, I can pass inspection. Maybe an accessport will do it.

My garage said as long as it doesn't stick out of the hood He'll pass it. As for the mid pipe ,my car won't go into the garage due to the low clearance of my car
