Turbo flutter
ok. question, I noticed alot of people in the rx7club boards have this problem. but havn't really found any solid information here. I basically have a HKS SSQV Bov
and i'm getting a flutter our of it in vacuum right up to 0hg after is goes into boost, my bov sounds normal. I have my bov setup on the UIM nipple. would it stop flutter if I put my bov vacuum hose closer to the turbo?
it basically sounds like this --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGpv5g41TIY
or actually EXACTLY like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4Eme4GGXwA
and I'm think it's compressor surge. I can't find any boost leaks anywhere. as soon as I go into positive mani pressure my bov act like normal. and does the whistle noise.
Seems people are having the same issue at rx7club with this as well..

I'm just wondering if anyone else with the greddy kit gets flutter? I'm hoping it's not compressor surge..

You know, I was thinking.. Do you think my tailpipe silencers have something to do with it? since it's letting less exhaust through? but that wouldn't explain why it only does it in vacuum and not in boost...

i have the same BOV, and i have the same sound as the first one, when it's shifting the gears and it's not in boost (under vacumm). when it's in boost, then it's whistling as regular BOV does. i think it's fine, and i have been having it for 3 months to 4 moths

It can't really be avoided on a diaphram BOV - when you let of the gas - the air pressure always changes pre-post turbo - so your BOV has to bleed it as the turbo is spinning even in vacuum. SO it builds - then bleeds then builds then bleeds - and the flutter is what you hear.
BTW - it is Stalling not surge.
The only way to fix it is to get a BOV that sucks and blows - and responds faster....

hehe, I actually like it, just wanted to make sure it was ok since I usually hear a whistle on most bov's. And yeah, since then, I've heard more that make this sound, so it seems ok
