define canbus...
but an al-umin-ium dash looks so much more racecar
should I be good removing the dash besides the gauge cluster and radio display ribbon
or is removing the passenger side dash and radio a no-no too?

How will you ever know the time and temperature without that upper strip?

oh and what about the door locks?
can they be deleted or do they have to be connected as part of the anti-theft?
I haven't messed with them yet because I was unsure

You can remove the radio, etc. so long as you leave the TMPS box behind the LCD. You can remove the passenger side air bag as well. You could remove everything but the dash gives you some secure points for all the wiring, etc. You can remove the door locks.

Go 6 point harnesses dude. save your nuts. It's worth the extra $25-50 per side. Also, keep your dash, your heater core, HVAC, and blower motor. You need defrost at very least. If you're out on a cool morning on track you'll have no way to clean your windshield or keep it clean. Since you're in GA and run events all year long, you'll need it. You can get rid of all the heavy A/C **** though of course. You can even get rid of most of the ducting. Just leave the ducting to the windshield.

Good start and good luck with the build.

Cool thread, always good to see someone building a track ****. What class do you intend to run in for TT and with what org? NASA, SCCA, NARRA etc?

With the car being forced induction I'm assuming you will have to pay massive points for the letter classes or go on a huge diet to get to even TT3 P/W limits.

Keep in mind, the org you run in may have very strict rules about cages extending beyond the firewalls. I know NASA does. Good luck with the build though.

NASA TTA/TT3 I can swing requirements for either
9.6 adjusted Weight/Power Ratio
After that I would like to move to the ST3 Competition Racing Series
I'll list a more specific points spread in a few
As far as I know it's just +2 points for multiple cage points beyond the firewall

Cool, TT3 at least in my region is insanely competitive. If you can swing TTA I would definitely recommend it. Weirdly ST3 is pretty empty in MA/NE at least, but could be a fun class. I'm curious about the reliability of a FI Renesis doing 40 min races at WOT though.

That's the plan
If you've got the right engine build it's very realiable
I'm not worried at all

hmm after tallying up my points I may actually be in TTB
the RX-8 is in TTD; add 50pts from all the mods (weight, FI, suspension, tires, etc) and that would put me in TTB
however my weight/power ratio puts me in TTA so I'm not quite sure what takes priority
I would assume the weight/power

Power/weight takes priority. With competitive tires, suspension and weight I'd assume you would be at least close to TTA anyway. Then again, I don't know the points classes really as I'm well into the P/W only classes. My car only has 3 mods (sedan/AWD/tires) to my 8:1 adjusted P/W, so my classing form takes like 10 seconds to fill out. The disadvantage is that I run against some truly insane cars.

What suspension/tires do you plan on running with this thing? Full slicks for PT3 and A6s for TT?

Cool, I run KWV3s with Hyperco 10k/11k springs myself and they are definitely competitive. In the future I'd like to go to high end Ohlins. I would recommend taking the extra couple of points for A6s for TT. The difference between those tires in grip level for TT is astonishing. They are worth 2 seconds a lap over R6s, and no other mod is going to give you that kind of benefit. I've been running R6s this year and I've been busting my *** trying to keep up with guys on A6s or full slicks.

Good thread though, best one I've seen on RX8Club in ages.
