7 years of track days---now that is a testament that the 13msp port engine can run boost and be reliable

Drove the car to sunshine coast last week and the car was running like a pig...car kept stalling, high fuel consumption, back firing and low on power. Got back home and discovered that there was a leak in the intake and a boost leak.

Got this fixed and then drove to the GoldCoast of Friday and the power is back however, it is not smooth through the rev range. My guess is that the car got tuned with the leaks in boost and intake and now that these issues have been corrected it may be causing the car to run lean as I had a lean code yesterday.

There is also another theory that suggests that a lean code could be due to a faulty rear sensor.

Any suggestions from anyone?

where were your leaks at? And I think your spot on with the tuned leaks. Have your tuner spray some soapy water on your pipes while he tunes to avoid this in the future. If you have leaks you will see bubbles

The leak was on the first bend on the hot side. This is located under the stock intake under tray. In my car the pipes have a bit of a gap and the clamps was tightened in the gap.

All I had to do was slide the the calmp higher.

So good to have a car without oil leaks. I am glad the fittings at the back of the supercharger finally got sorted.

Doing a bit of ducting lately to keep temperatures under control at teh track. The latest is the addition of a 3 inch aluminium angle to the inter cooler to force air into the grille.

Picked up the car from the tuners today. Power is still down and currently at 166kw. The dyno at the end of july showed 200.3 kw so it is a significant drop and no significant gain after 6000rpm.

the only significant change was that I was tunning the twin 2"exhaust and had better flow at high RPM. When I switched to the 3"pipe the power dropped so I am suspecting the pipe is the possible cause of the power drop.

The only way to confirm this is to do another run with the twin 2"pipe. It has me intrigued after seeing such a significant drop.

PLEASE get back with us on that.
Man--that is only approx 222 rwhp--right?
Something surely happened and I dont think its the exhaust pipe?
The shrouding to the cooler is a good idea with that body kit you have. But I am afraid you will need bigger coolers in the end?

It is a significant drop. I got under the car today to check on the exhaust. The cat and the resonator after the cat has a dull sound to it. The second resonator sounds different and has a rattle sound comming from the inside. I am suspecting the baffles may have collapsed. this resonator also gets pounded when I go over speed bumps.

I will be getting the exhaust swapped tomorrow and power run and tune booked for the following day.

Here is the latest dyno. The 200.3kw was achieved on 28th July 2012 this was done on the smaller exhaust system. When I switched to the 3" I noticed that the car was better muffled which appeared strange however I did not think mich about it at the time.

The lower dyno figure is on the 3"system.

how much boost are you making? Your power level seems kinda low to me?
For example --with 7-8 psi of boost on my Pettit blower I am a little over 300rwhp ( about 223kw?).
Something just doesnt seem right?

The single larger exhaust pipe will give you a deeper "tone" so that maybe is what you heard?

The boost peaks at 8 psi. Someone noticed that the power curve drops off at the stage where the APV opens. I will get this checked as well incase it is stuck closed.

I am investigating the exhaust as this is the only variable that was changed when the power dropped over 50%. It will be nice to get 300 hp.

Thanks for the encouragement OD.

I am also looking at the APV operation. I can hear the motor cycle when I turn the ignition on and off. I also squirted some carby cleaner into the vaccum pipe that exits from the catch can. My assumption was that it ends up in the intake.

I also plan to get a water decarb done prior to the tune.

Unfortunately could not get to the mechanic today as planned due to health issues. All clear, however car needs to be rebooked as they could not fit me in for the afternoon.

A was planning to go to the track again on saturday however, this is now dependant on getting the tune done tomorrow.

No belt slippage, there was some belt squeal so the belt was replaced last week

I understand the MAF is scaled. I have to do some new recordings to see the g/s i am currently getting.

Took the car to the track last weekend. Glad to report no overheating issues as a result of the ducting to oil cooler and intercooler. The exhaust was swapped before the track however I did not get the tune done in time.

No oil leak from the supercharger anymore however some oil leak from the eshaft pulley area. i am not going to bother repairing this at the moment and I will leave it till the eventual rebuild.

Car goes back to the shop for a new tune. we will also investigate the APV operation prior to the tune.

Failed compression test. Decarb and retested and still failed. Car still runs fine idle is good cold and hot start is also good.

Possible chipped apex seal, worn housings or stuck corner seal.

At this stage I cannot afford a proper rebuild as this will cost around $17k from Extreme Rotaries which really strengthens the engine to handle boost.

I will try and hold off for around 12 months if I can to save up the funds. No more track days anymore.
