Read RG's earlier post. You CAN'T use 13B rotors in the Renesis. They just aren't compatiable. They probably could be hacked up to work, but it's going to take quite a bit... more than it's likely worth.

He didn't say you can't, he said that it would require some meticulous machining, I think that some meticulous machining sounds a bit easier then reinforcing the inner structure of a rotor.

Um, Polak... I did say just that in the next sentence. And RG said that even with the machining you still have the lack of a cutt-off seal to deal with.

The 13B rotors can not be used in a Renesis. It only works one way. First off the 13B rotors do not have a cutoff seal on the rotor faces. This means you will actually have a small amount of port overlap. This isn't the problem though. The problem is with the side seals. The Renesis side seals are wedge shaped and thicker. It is this wedge shape that helps remove carbon from the side seal grooves as the rotors turn. This is a good thing. The 13B rotor side seals do not have this wedge shape and will not help remove carbon. This means carbon may build up in the side seal grooves and either stick a seal or worse break one. That would be very bad news as breaking seals in a Renesis makes even more of a mess than breaking them in a 13B. If you could find someone who could do the meticulous and tedious precision work of machining the correct shape wedge groove in a 13B rotor, it would be possible to use them in a Renesis. You would still be absent the cutoff seal though so actual results would still be questionable. I'm not going to be the brave first person to try it.
Not worth the time. As someone else mentioned, higher boost isn't impossible on higher compression rotors, it is just more difficult to tune. Tuning vs machining with questionable results... I'd take tuning thank you.

Using 13B rotors in a Renesis is not going to happen. At least not properly.

why doesn't somebody just cast there own rotors, an exact mimic of the Renesis rotors just thicker and more durable?

I thaught the same thing but that would be very expensive and hard to do. most people dont have the resources to do this.

Sorry there wasn't any update this week folks. I've been busy with my RX7 and taking some time off from work to relax a little. I'll be heading up to PFSupercars this coming thursday to get an update on the RX8 and maybe take some pictures. I'm also having my RX7 tuned for high boost and race gas so I can run my car at Captiol or MIR. Anyways I'll drop some new info next week when I find out more.

Sorry for the delay in an update folks. Not too much has been happening, besides that I've been extremely busy with work and my RX7. Anyways, the engine bay looks completely different right now. They had to fabricate a new motor mount for the tubbing to/from the turbo, it has a new custom exhaust manifold, and the collector is in there some where lol. Anyways I'm going up to PFSupercars to take a couple of shot of the project and I'll try to get around to posting them on the forum ASAP. Anyways take care peoples and have a good day.

The last page of discussion has been all about swapping out the rotors, and I asked the same question and this is the answer I got.

This lighter casting leaves less room for any machining and also less material for strength reasons. You can no longer machine away the sides of the Renesis rotors as you can the older ones for lightening reasons as they aren't thick enough. There have been limited occurances with people actually denting 13B rotor faces under extreme pressures with detonation. With a thinner casting, this could be a bigger issue. Those that were dented were taken up to stratospheric levels though and not everyone that does this will dent a rotor. It's all in the tuning.

i've seen a bunch of dented rotors before... no biggie, just don't detonate.

Sorry it's been so long folks, I've been extremely busy at work and haven't been able to make it up to Rays shop lately. Although, there has been some progress made. Last time I was up there, I had a chance to see the new header manifold, the return pipe, and the new motor mount that had to be made. I'm going up tomorrow to pick up a few things for my RX7. I'll try to snap some spy photos of my own stuff, hehe. A new motor mount had to be fabricated to fit both pipes, the header and return pipe. Kenny is also fabricating shielding for wires, and oil lines because of the heat that will be produced. Things in all are looking very good, and as soon as the fabrication of the turbo kit is done, then the motor will be coming out to see what kind of situation we have to deal with. Anyways if there's anything else for me to update on, I'll try to post it tomorrow, but I don't want to promise anything.

What compressios will the new rotors have??I am very interested in lower compression rotors to raise boost in my super project 8... :D

My Grey Rx8 will be at PFS until Friday getting my Greddy turbo and Interceptor tuned. If you stop by there see if you can find out how its coming along. I'll definitly be checking out your project when I pick it up Friday.

well, about fabricating your own rotors, that's where i am now. Since a local shop overbooseted my 8, it's currently at Rotorsports Racing for a rebuild. They fabricate there own renesis seals which are thicker or "beefier" for turbo'd apps. Since the renesis oem seals are thinner and weren't designed to be boosted, not to say that they can't be, these seals will most likely just provide for higher boost if i ever get the guts or improve the longevity of my car with the turbo. There still the same size 2mm though, and I've read that tere are no apparent advantages, (perhaps even disadvantages for the renesis) for 3mm seals because they tend to float at high rmps.

To tell you the truth, Ray hasn't gotten to the point where he has to worry about compression ratio right at this moment. As far as I know the turbo setup is still in the fabrication stage. With an out of town guy building the turbo kit, it's going to take a little longer then what was originally expected. Last time I check, they had the headers, down pipe and up pipe done. I really haven't has a chance or the time to check on my project. Also with the holidays approaching soon it may be a while before I get another chance to get up to the shop. Although I have to be honest I really miss my 183 rwhp'd RX8 lol, but I know she's going to be much stronger, and a lot more nimble. Well as soon as I get an update I'll be sure to post for you guys.

Somehow, I missed this thread until now.

This is great! Keep the project going! (It feels like you're playing GT4 and you've got the money for all of the mods!)

Okay, so I stopped up at Rays shop today. I dropped a few things like my gauges, various suspension parts, 13 inch Stoptech brakes, brake lines, and a few other parts, but can't remember everything. Anyways while I was up there, I talked to Ray, he said that he sent the headers, up and down pipe off to be jigged and sent back to him. They should arrive at the shop friday. Finally I'll be able to snap off some pictures as long as I can remember to put my camera in my car.

Also I spoke with Bulletproof Automotive and they said that my body kit and rims should arrive the middle of next month. Hopefully they do, at which point I believe Ray mentioned that the engine may be out of the car. Afterwards, the car will be going to a local body shop up in Freddrick that Ray uses, the body kit and various parts will be installed and painted. So over the next couple of weeks it looks like a lot should be happenning. So that's all I have right now, I'll see what I can dig up next week.

I just started to check out this thread. Sounds great, keep up the work. Also, I have to address a few issues:
1) To the money complaining dude- his 80k might be the equivalent to the average Joe's 800. I have a buddy that rich....pisses me off! But I get to tool around in his sweet rides. Point being, 1977 loves his 8 and he has the resources to do what ever he wants to it. I say good luck and let me borrow the keys. If you don't love the 8 you probably just don't get it, like everyone else here.
2) Evilbada1, and your post from mid September. I really hope that you do have "350 rwhp", but I'm going to have to say.....um......BS. Your garage mentions about 10 hp in mods and some cool wheels. If you are getting 150hp+ hp off of an exhaust.......we are all sitting on the edge of our seats for proof. Keep it real homey.
3) Oh yeah, how could I forget. I saw Mugato's cheery response on page one. The King of happiness! We're all very impressed that you can spot a cloud on a sunny day and all, but it gets a little old bro.

BS my ***,,
I said whenever PTP releases their turbo kit, I will be the first in line to get the kit which will be plenty for ~350whp. Did the PTP guys release their kit yet? No.
Did they say it will be soon? Yes.

Where in my post do you find BS?
Read correctly before you EVEN start flaming.

Looks like I read your post incorrectly, but saying your going to do it and actually doing it are two different things. That makes the situation a....my bad.....and a ......you backing up what you said you are going to do. If you do, then we will all enjoy the pics and you will enjoy rubbing it in my face. You buy 20k in upgrades, I'll buy some glasses and the Z06 dude can buy a clue.

Hey Leggs, nobody will be getting the keys except for maybe Ray, Peter and myself. Now I will be offering rides at a price of 10$ a 1/4 mile run, lol. I think Kenny is finally going to be back at PFSupercars on Monday with the Headers, up-pipe and down-pipe. So I will be sure my camera is ready to take some "spy shots" lol, and I can't forget my camera this time because it's in my car already. I'll be sure to update this week if I get a chance to make it up there.
