Ricky's Turbo Renny 2.0 Build Thread
Wanted to jump in here and copy/paste some other updates I've put on the forum right here to keep things kinda updated as to what I have going on with the 8 (and other stuff) currently.
Havent gotten to doing this just yet. Its a big job and I want to be able to fully commit an entire uninterrupted day to get this done. I definitely will need to clean and lubricate the sway bars. I have one rear shock that has started to come apart at the upper mount where the rubber damper goes through, so I will have to replace that piece too. More inspections to see if anything else needs to get done on it to keep it running smoothly.
This is going to be a big job for another weekend, but with some AutoX events coming up I want to do I might actually push to get this done soon. I dont have all the new aftermarket radio components, so what I will probably end up doing is pulling the dash for the AC repair, removing some wiring I no longer need, but the BOSE radio stuff might need to stay for now as I dont want to put the money down for several speakers, a headunit, amp, and wiring. It'll run up to probably close to a grand very quickly and that right now needs to be spent on the house and Mazda6 instead of a stereo for the 8. I'll still be able to easily do the rollcage paint, intercooler work, and redoing my hitch.
Dinner went well, parents gave their blessings after some conversation and a few beers with dinner. I'm now making the plans for the proposal itself.
Mazda6 needs a valve cover reseal job with also cleaning out and doing some repairs to the cam system. Its due for an oil change and I need to do a full suspension inspection (arms, balljoints, springs and shocks) as I got some squeaks and noises that are making me think probably swaybar links, failing rear shocks, and some other wear/tear items. I did spend some time with that car on lowered suspension and research has led me to discover that doing so on the Mazda6 typically isnt kind to control arm ball joints, CV's, and hub bearings. So I want to give it a good look over. I'll probably have to address repairs there too.
Rx8 needs all HVAC core components replaced. Means the entire dash has to come out. While I'm in there I'll remove some wiring that goes to the OEM seats which I no longer need, I also might as well do some resealing of the cabin and also rip out all of the BOSE radio garbage and proceed with a full aftermarket stereo install. I'll get my tint redone and maybe also consider painting my rollcage at the same time since that likely will come out to complete all that work. While the car is down I'll likely do some welding both on the intercooler and redoing the tow hitch point on my rear crash bar so I can use my small 40"x48" HF trailer as my track equipment trailer for a cooler and shade, tools, extra E85, and track wheels.
This Sunday I should be taking my girlfriends parents out to dinner where I will ask her fathers blessing to marry his daughter (old fashioned of me, but its how I was raised). Then I can finish making proposal preparations and start making the plans. I already have the ring in my possession.
