ported vs. non spoolup diffrences

just curious to see when the greedy turbo guys are seeing full boost. .4-.45 bar?

stock form, and with a mid pipe and catback. i'm curious to see how much spoolup difference the porting makes.

i don't exactly understand what you're asking, but i get around .45-.5 bar w/ borla & midpipe. my setup does overboost to .51 or so every now and then when i'm blipping the throttle.

DAMN!!!! that's exactly what the owner of this last rx8 i rebuilt said. i wanted to check to make sure he didn't have a problem before or something, but the ported engine sees full boost at about 27-2800 rpm. and this is just line to the wastegate actuator...no extra help from a boost controller.

so did a mild port job knock 700 rpm off the spoolup????

**edit**
i did some lugs in 5th and 6th gear. starting from about 1800 rpm, it hits .45 by 2500 rpm, at 4,000 foot elevation!

I'm ported & see boost coming on at 2000 RPM & full boost by 2400 RPM. Didn't think that was why, but OK. I can't hold boost up top, though, even with a boost controller & the wastegate actuator cranked tight.

guitar, i got 0.5bar of boost @ 4200 when i was pulling in third gear. we started to pull at around 2500. in fifth gear, 0.5bar boost comes much quicker at around 3200 (before 3500). on street, it seems to come on between 3000-3500 when i'm pulling from a second gear, i just can't pinpoint the exact rpm. bottomline is if you're getting full boost before 3000, your porting job is definitely doing something there.

so the porting seems to be most definately helping out with spoolup, but if the greedy is running out of power in the top end, i doubt we'd see much gains overall, unless a bigger turbo was used. should see a bit more torque down low though...right where rotaries need it.

i'll be testing a ported renesis with an upgraded greedy turbo this summer. with upgraded injectors, it should do 300whp with ease, and uber-quick spoolup. quick enough to where i might port and weld on a t3 flange and up the hot side to something a little more rotary-friendly.

alrighty-- got to take a ride instickman's car today. 4th and 5th gear lugs made full boost by about 27-2800 rpm.

so the ported engine is spooling a couple hundred rpm faster than a non-ported engine with similar mods. of course, the ported engine was tested where i live ~4k ft, instead of at sea level.

i think it's realistic to assume maybe 2-300 rpm quicker spoolup from a mild exhaust port.
