Ported and turbo (sharing the experience)

hi, i have been in the forum for a quite awhile, and i went thorugh alot.
it's started from here : https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/9-psi-330whp-160698/
in July, i found out that my engine blew...before blowing it, i made a lot of mistakes, playing with the ignition which caused a lot of misfiring, and my fuel filter got clogged up, and gave me a hard time.
now, i decided to make a thread for my second engine, and i am ready to go again.

engine:
- Ported by KDR (don't want to have Bridgeport because you loose the street wise), but it was his work. don't have pics yet because he has to give them to me.
- RX7 RA superseals
- Meth 50/50

Turbo:
- top mount
- T67 (.81 AR hot side & .60 AR cold side)

what is the plan after getting it broken in:
getting it tuned, and i will run it for 8, 11, and 14 psi.

above are the new mods that i did after the first thread turbo i had above. you guys can read the first thread about my other mods. it's not finished yet, but still working on it.
i like to share my experience to ppl in the forum. all advice are welcome, but as we all know everybody has his or her own taste,
i posted some pictures little bit while it's being built toward finishing...
in the pictures, if you wonder, the downpipe has to be modified little bit because it hits the coolant lines. remember, it's no finished yet, and it will be finish hopefully by this weekend.

Note: i will keep updating it ...have fun guys...

Good luck with the build. Watch for boost creep on your first runs, your WG doesnt look like it is mounted in a way that is conducive to flow.

i had the same set up with low mount, it didn't have alot of boost creep at all. i don't know, but i just have extra piping to move the turbo to the top, that's all, everything else is the same
it's Mazsport design which is the type 3 kit that he had.,and i hope no boost creep a lot

yeah man, i didn't even know what happened...i played with the ignition system alot, so one day when i was trying to start it, it didn't start. we keep trying, and we did a compression test. we found out that the rear rotor had 0 ....
when we opened it, it's not only the motor blown, but the turbo too, it is shut.......but looking forward to a new set up, since we know what happened in previous experience...LOL...

yeah and if you feel like "racing", you can dump the clutch at 4000 right before you get into boost

my friend with a 7 has been using ra seals for a while, just tore it open for a bridge port and wear was fine. Are u machining the rotors to fit the ra seals?

my comment had nothing to do with the specific aftermarket seal you chose.

if anybody sees my pictures, on the 5th picture to the right, the last one, there is a cross bar under the turbo, as we know that all rx8 have them. they are the bar where we put our battery and intakes, but if we get rid of it and change it little bit, does anybody know if it's going to effect the handling?

I've been running a T67 on my 7 for over a year now with big street port (4 port FC engine with 8.5:1 rotors). With the 1.00 hotside and .70 coldside I get 16psi by 5000-5500 depending on the gear. It sounds laggy. But what that really means is that you need to downshift a little bit when going up hills around town, that's all. It's dead when you lug the engine at 2000rpm in 3rd gear, but so is a stock Renesis when you drive it like that. At 9psi you are missing out on a lot of torque.

Top end is very nice. 5000-8000rpm or so, and with the gearing you never really fall out of the powerband as you shift. Turn the boost up and you should be embarassing C6's, E92 M3's, etc. It should be a deep 12 second car at least if your drivetrain will hold up. 115+ mph in the 1/4. These turbos have done ~550whp on rotaries at 25psi (not that you would really want that kind of power).

I have not opened the engine up. I got the kit in pieces and it took some time, then I wasted about 2months looking into why the car didn't idle. Vacuum, wires, fuel etc only to find out (by SSA) it had no idle map loaded on to it. Chris not the easies to get to reply to emails and phone calls but he helped out some and was willing to come to NY to tune it for me. That says a lot but anyway Enzo will be tuning the car for me next week. Right now SSA did a street tune for me to run around with until I could get it on the dyno.

As for what Chris has done, a ton to his engine! He's gone much further then anyone here, trust me on this. I've asked him to let out some of his tricks but I guess he uses them to make his products better? The guy is super busy and doesn't have time for newB questions. To be honest the stuff he could do is super cool but he's just one guy and does most stuff to his car.

If I were closer I'd use Dave for anything related to my car! He's a stand up guy, knows his stuff and unlike most places when he gives you a time it yours! He answers the stupidest questions and out of the 7 guys has warmed up really nice to the 8 and its engine. I've seen a crazy sick 3rd gen motor swap he did that was over 400whp on a DD.

With my car I learned that you need to be as informed as anyone else and get your hands dirty or it will never get done. Especially here, the NY attitude is learn it your self stupid!

i feel you man, yeah dave has been tunning my car since i had my greddy turbo, and he gave me a lot of advices. as long as you are comfortable with your tuner or mechanic, everything will be good. wait, SSA has his RX8 with rx7 motor right?
the white RX8?

arghx, that's a big set up turbo...mine is .81 hot side and 60 cold side, i can't imagine with 1.0 hot side and .70 cold side, that' turbo must be huge...must be as big as your enigne..
thank you for your advice, and yeah i don't mind shift it down, because i believe the rotary is good power on the higher rpm. it is true when i had my low mount, i had the same turbo, and mine spooled at 4.5 to 5k .....i was thinking to get Gt35R, but i went with this direction, because i didn't know anybody using t67 in their RX8, but you gave a good story whcih motivates me to keep this turbo in the future..thank you...it will be ready by tihs weekend....

steven
