Since there seems to be a lot of interest in the 3 rotor swap into a rx8 I will sit down late tonight or Monday night and put together an estimate on here for idea of what it would cost for my shop to put together a turn key 20B swap with different transmission options and all.

Here is a quick estimate on putting a 20B into a rx8. I could have left out a few things, but it's pretty close. Engine set up is good for 600+ on pump.

This estimate uses a stock FD trans which is not the best method as you will strip third after a bit w/ it. It can be used to save cost but a T56 is recommended for the swap. The new style GTO t56 is by far the best option and can be had anywhere from 1600-2000 used. I can source a brand new one for $3200. Again, this is another option and I will discuss it in greater detail if some one is interested in performing the swap.

You can lower the price a bit by using a S475 turbo and a Micro Tech. I prefer the Haltech hands down.

This should give someone an idea.

wow that aint cheap.... very nicely done breaking it down though! A nice place to steer those people who ask about 20B without really knowing what they are getting in to.

This is rich man luxury territory. It will easily cost 3x+ that to have someone else do it right.

This post seems to have summed this thread up. 33k could buy you a pretty nice track car already built.

Good value. I remember someone charging around $60k several years ago.

Thanks for the rough estimate. On RX7club, people that do the 20B swap themselves into a 3rd gen RX-7 are usually spending about $20,000. $10,000 for the labor sounds about right.

Keep in mind that after the swap you should have a motor, transmission, and a few other pieces to sell. Not sure what those go for, but that will offset the cost by maybe $2,000-3,000.

Now some of you guys go get your RX-8 swapped to a 20B then turn around and sell it to me in a couple of years. I like to buy cars after all the work has been done.

formerly KDR (short for KD Rotary), he's one of the largest shops in the east coast.

He's located in Lenhartsville, along I-78, somewhere between exit 40-45. If you're coming from Harrisburg, you'll probably see the shop as you drive along I-78. Back in the 80's i think, he was the head trainer of Mazda North America. He's done a couple of 3-Rotor conversion and will be able to give you a realistic price and timeframe expectations. Great mechanic and great tuner, people from all along the eastern seaboard have driven there to see him. I come from NYC and it's worth the 2.5 hour drive everytime. Last time I was there, someone trailered their car from Tennesee.

I've gone over plenty of RX-8 ideas with him, he's see quite a few come across his shop and has a very good idea of what to do and how to take care of your car. He'll do V8's if you want, but he says he hates the sound and has always been a rotary lover.

One of his clients had him build a ITB'd 3-Rotor NA with RX-8 Lightened Rotors and a Custom headerback exhaust system, but it was done for a 3rd gen RX-7.

I love that black 7! Yea call Dave and he can answer all your questions. Rotories cost money if you start to mod them. Especially if you don't know much. Keep at it and have a second car.

If you guys are looking into NA 20b builds, Defined autoworks offers a good solution for FDs for cheap (the base config is a bit low on power but the cost to bring th power up isn't much more). I would start there if you are serious and post what you find out.
