Place and price for 3 rotor upgrade?
Place and price for 3 rotor upgrade?
without spending a lifetime searching the board.... is there anywhere that has done a few 3 rotor upgrades with success and have a package price? I don't want to pay a local guy $$$,$$$ to attempt it if i can trailer my car a hour away and get someone who has done a few.
I am just looking for a naturally aspirated 3 rotor i think...350-400hp.... i have a blown motor rx8 that would love a V8, but that apparently is not in the cards just yet.
thanks

might help if you list your location. nobody has a kit for this swap and it is VERY expensive and takes alot of time. theres a couple guys here that have done turbo 20b swaps along with 13b re, rew etc. i think thm is working on a 20b na now. you have alot of research and you are gonna get flamed for posting this. btw i hope you have a min of 15-20k saved
Msp- ask yourself this... Do you have at least $15,000 to spend freely? If not, no 3 rotor for you. A nice built 3 rotor from Lucky Seven will cost you $7500, almost identical to an LS6
.
.
I'm afraid the board will see many more threads like this - I just watched another review of the RX-8 that included the "it's so easy to get more power by just adding rotors" jem.
It is only easy if you are Mazda.

ahahaha.... i knew i would get a few flames...ahah.... i saw one guy who said he only had $7500 into a turbo 3 rotor install, but apparently puerto rican $ is different than USA $. ahaha
I was thinking $8k ish would get me something neat and semi reliable...i don't want to spend $14k (what i was quoted) for a V8 install...
I am in harrisburg, pa...
doh.. :D

a block will cost you $3000~$4000
rebuild kit: $1200
builder to simply assemble it: $700~$1000
We're already at/over $5k, and that assumes doing work yourself to break the engine down yourself, clean it, and deliver it to a builder.
You're wanting NA, so someone is going to have to build a custom intake setup that's not designed for FI. This could be $2000+.
You're also wanting 350+ NA, so you're looking at porting... +$1000
Computer? $2000
Tuning? $1000
we're already at $9k without custom intake manifolds, and also not including everything else that has to be fabricated to mount the engine to the chassis, fuel system upgrades, wiring harnesses, etc.
You're going to spend at least $15,000 USD if someone else assembles the engine, tunes it, and you do everything else.
Cheaper option:
rebuilt renesis + turbo = 350~400HP for insanely cheaper. I would dare say that you could build 2 400HP renesis blocks for the cost of 1 3 rotor setup in full (if not more). Shortblock + rebuild and porting... maybe $3000 per block. Complete turbo setup $4000.
That comes out to roughly 4 complete engines and a turbo setup for $16,000...

I would like to see that rebuilt motor and 400 hp renesis for 7K. No offense, but its not happening.
OP if you are interested in a 20B swap I can discuss it w/ you and walk you through all the options. The motor will cost close to 7K to do it properly.
I am attaching a picture of the 20B swap I am in the middle of w/ a custom Tremec T56 behind it. Picture of said car below
Regardless, it's still fundamentally cheaper than a NA 20b build. Had he said he wanted 450+, I would be recommending a 20b all day, but not for 350~400. Doesn't make since cost wise, or at least not to me.
BTW, very nice 20b setup. I still like them polished rather than painted. I've seen a lot of painted 20b plenums lately.
I agree with that, but it could be fine on the streets as well. I just don't think the cost is justified for 350~400 HP. Nothing wrong with wanting it though. If I had just money to burn, all my cars would have a 3 rotor... even the MR2...
It's all in the point of view. A turbo build would be enough for that goal but, if you're a folk like me that travels thousands of miles to and from a track then reliability comes into play. I'm not saying that turbos aren't reliable but we're all humans (ie idiots) and the more parts to keep track of, the more likely one of them will fail for user error!
+1111111 I am somewhere between 6 and 7K into my build (stopped trying to even keep track) and I am not even close to 350whp..... although I took the GReddy route before we had some of the top mounts that I would now go for (ie. Turblown + MM tunes)..... but wait until there is a nice upgrade kit for GReddy to BB turbo
Just rebuild and turbo the MSP..
kdr/speed one in new tripoli. 8k might be short... for roughly 10k you can do either a v8 or 13b... call kdr and speak with dave... there are way too many hidden costs to break it down. some of these prices are absurd. sounds like their pulling numbers out their asses.
Do you make a 6-figure salary? Is your 401k on target to hit several million $$$ by the age you want to retire?
This is rich man luxury territory. It will easily cost 3x+ that to have someone else do it right.

This is, of course, an extreme case of what can happen, but something that anyone even considering a 3 rotor swap needs to know.
