Tim

I'm glad you decided to repost also!

I'm interested in ANY development of the 8, even though I'm located in the UK.

Please keep us informed.

Thanks

Who cares already, I just want a turbo that's better than the Greddy....whoever impresses me first gets my 5g's. Properly tuned? Maybe worth even more depending on results.

Well I'm waiting.

not to mention that either one you would want to get tuned for optimum results with your car, which will run even more

So if SFR was able to get the car to run 350rhp or close to it to, then what would a total cost and a list of mods that would be needed to accommodate the setup?

So be it. I have 10 set aside right now but Greddy is unimpressive and I'm waiting for someone to put something out that impresses me. It's just that I remember reading that SFR or PTP was gonna charge around 5...

PTP said around $5K, SFR/SSR is $7.5K.

Someone should introduce SFR to the "ignore" function of the forum. Then they don't have to read any of the posts from the individuals with negative views towards their product.

Click on "User/CP" in the upper right of the top menu, under the rx8 club graphicbanner.

Go to miscellaneous section. Click on Buddy/Ignore List.

Add the user names to the ignore list and click update. Va la, now you don't have to deal with the individuals that bother you.

7.5K? Ours is 4995 right now, if you want pre-tuned engine management it's an additional 1300.

OH geez...that's right...sorry I spaced that one.

Well let me see what the "other guys" come out with, and I'll weigh the options...

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...8&page=4&pp=15

Is there any new updates at this point? How is the car running? Has the smoke issue been fixed?

Thats what it says on the site :

http://www.speedforceracing.com/prod...x8turbokit.php

That includes the EMS, injectors, & boost solenoid. $7499.

I wish you would stop quoting that $4995. That is somewhat deceptive in that there is no engine management, the injectors that you used to get to the 280 whp that you are claiming. If you guys are claiming 280-287 whp great, but at least tell people that it will be about $6300-$7500...when all is said & done. One is a tuner kit, the other is a turbo kit.

$4995+$1300 ECU upgrade sounds good. I wish I just bought mine awhile back so I can start with this. Alas, my Shinka is only 3mos old and needs a little seasoning first (warranty/loan payoff). After a couple of yrs this can be a very good option to take for me to spice up my passion for the 8 (kinda like being married too long) :D .

7499 for almost 150hp to the rear, that's ok with me. How about installation, what's the round about cost? And is that with the ECU already tuned and can alternate maps be added for different driving conditions. Sorry if these questions were already answered but I don't know that much about tuning.

installation? go to your local rotary shop and ask them, unless you want to take a short drive across the country to SFR in which case would be about 1000 bucks plus another 200 for an hour of tuning

We have to put dynoing the RX-8 turbo on hold till next week. The front O2 sensor stripped out when we removed it from the stock header. We tried to fix it and reinstall it in the new turbo downpipe but the heater is messed up and it is throwing a CEL.So we have to wait till Monday for a new one before we can proceed.

I thought we flogged this horse to death already...
They can quote $4995 because they give you the option to pick which ever ECU you like. It's only 7.5K if you use THEIR TSI unit... I guess they might stop quoting $4995 when you stop quoting $7500.
They have said over and over again that there are a multitude of options with their kit. It's up to the purchaser to pick and choose as they see fit. Sort of like building / buying a PC.
Lets ALL agree that some people like the fact that this kit has options, while others would prefer a complete figure ala GReddy. BUT it is up to the consumer to understand EXACTLY what they are buying.
I have never been under the impression that SFR was trying to mislead us by their pricing scheme of this kit and if you look on their website, it states VERY CLEARLY what you get for $4995.
The only thing I would like to know more about is how they are going with the install pertinent to this thread. ie issues, performanace gains and EXACTLY how they got there.

Cheers,
LJ

That's what I mean by "Tuner" kit vs. "Turbo" kit. A lot of people DON'T understand the difference. They see $5000 and assume that is the price to get a running kit. You need FMU, some kind've FMU to go with the $5,000. That is what we are trying to explain to people new to the FI world. That if you spend $5,000 to get a SFR/SSR kit you will still need to get an FMU, some kind of FMU for the car to be usable. You might saavy enough to know the difference, but some people have never even thought about a turbo kit until this car. They see the Greddy or the upcoming PTP & assume the SFR/SSR is the same thing. It's not. I respect what SFR said that this is not a kit that someone looking at a Greddy will look at, but they should make the delineation of quoting $5000, but not telling the guy BTW, you need SOME kind've FMU to go with that. Either quote $5,000 and tell them FMU is up to you, or the $6,300-$7,500. With the Vortech SC for the 350's on their Tuner kits they put in BIG, BOLD Writing that it does not include certain parts necessary to run the kit.

I see where you are coming from and I am one of the noobs you refer about not ever having considered FI until this car. Everything I know about mods and tuning has largely been from this site. Thus I don't post very often.
The point is, anyone who knows how to read and has a reasonable level of comprehension skills would be able to figure out that the 5k does not inc a piggyback ECU.
It just feels like you're still hounding them about a slight error in judgement with their inital dissemination of information about this kit.

Btw,

"Ours is 4995 right now, if you want pre-tuned engine management it's an additional 1300"

I think the above statement is fairly clear. But that's just me..

Cheers

I have to agree with LittleJohn on this one. I too have never used FI before but now that I own an RX8, I will likely go down the FI road at some later date. Much of what I learned so far has come from this site and any semi-intelligent, rationale individual would understand the difference between the two packages. Lets just stop throwing accusations at SSR and get on with the show.
