I'm running a CAT-less midpipe and using the same tune as Greddy (or, should I say, they are using the same tune as mine since they copied it) and while you do hear the backfires, there aren't more of them than with a CAT.
They are just louder.
Managing boost may be an issue on the Greddy kit without being able to lower it mechanically and then control it with a boost controller. Some people are seeing boost spikes with hi-flow CATs or no CAT at all.

so is anyone talking about porting the engine adding a functional header and having the turbo kit? Is it even feasible?

Nobody has done this yet. The kit comes with a modified (for the turbo) cast iron exhaust manifold/header.

Got any pics of the manifold how different does it look from the stock one?

well I'm going to be adding this catless midpipe I have sitting around on when I get my custom exhaust made, and then we're putting in a GReddy pressure sensor harness, boost controller, and strapping it to the dyno.

Right now I have a pretty much custom map running, and we're always tweaking it so the car runs great other than the slight hesitation that you get with an NA car running a piggyback, tuned for throttle and rpm (hence the pressure sensor harness which will tune based on boost like a stock turbo car).

I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Usually test pipe will give you better performance/more hp as it has NO resistance/back pressure. The hi-flow cats have a bit as it is still a catalytic. But be aware that with the test pipe you will almost be guaranteed a CEL, whereas the hi-flow cat usually will not give you a CEL.

Already got a CEL with the turbo so I"m not worried.

Also be aware of the nasty backfire problem. Several of us have it even with the hi-flow cat. It would probably be even worse on a straight pipe. Might not have the issue, but then again quite a few of us do/did.

I installed the RP supercat and found it'll lean out the AFR. Check my thread here for more info. Also, I've put about 50 miles on it w/ no CEL yet. The backfiring is about the same as before just louder.
